LExE finds .ztm extension is marked as executable, but I couldn't find much info about it on the net.  Anyone know what this is from, or whether it's supposed to be an executable file?

Do you have a program called "ZTreeWin" installed?

Not that I know of...  I certainly never installed a program with that name, and I can't find it anywhere on my drive (also can't find any .ztm extensions).

At least ZTreeWin doesn't seem like it's malware.  I do have a similar type of directory manager, though (Radsoft's Xfile) - I wonder if that has anything to do with it, although I haven't seen it using any .ztm files...

.ztm is purported to be a macrofile for ZTreeWin.
Quote:
Keystroke macro feature added to automate tasks.
F12, Ctrl-F12 and Alt-F12 to enter, record and playback macros.
Open a saved .ZTM macro file to execute it.
Macro mnemonics added to specify certain keys and ZTreeWin states.
* Additional macro mnemonics and directives.
* CTRL_BS changed to CTRL_BKSL.
Command line option added to call initial macro.
(See help section 3.10 for a complete description).

Zone Temperature Monitor is also used as an abbreviation.

I do have Radsoft's XPT over here (W2k SP4) as well, and I don't have .ztm files, so I think it is out of this.

Well, that's certainly a puzzle - I haven't run either ZTreeWin or TradeWars.  In fact, I can't find a single .ztm file anywhere on my computer or a program that uses them.

So my next question is: is there any way to unmark .ztm files from being executable?

Yes, there is.

1. Start regedit. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ztm

2. Check the "(Default)" value of that key. I'm assuming that it is "ztmfile" - it might be something else.

3. Delete the key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ztmfile

First, sorry for the guest postings - I had forgotten my password and it took a while to track down.

I went into RegEdit, but the .ztm key has 2 values.  The default value lists ZTM.1, but there's a second value, Content Type, that says x-zip-application.

Could this have something to do with a ZIP archive type for some reason?  I'm worried if I delete it that it might impact my computer's ability to work with zip files.  Maybe this is a stupid question, but I don't know enough about registry editing to know how deleting this will affect my configuration.
