| TrojanHunter Guard and NIS 2009 play very well together. As you probably know, when running two security programs together, it is often a "first detect, first alert" condition if an infection enters memory. In other words, NIS might detect an infection before THGuard sees it. NIS will then lock that file so that THGuard cannot see it.... or vice versa. Quote:| I ran TrojanHunter, and it did find something, but i dont know what it did with it. This was in regular start up mode. Now in safe or regular mode it will not find anything. It was the free version when it found it. I then purchased it and ran it, and wasnt paying attention and restarted into safe mode because i wanted to try something else, without seeing what it had found. so i dont know if it did something with it or not. |
| What version of TH does it say you are running? You should be using V5.0.962 because V5.1.975 has a bug in it that Magnus is currently fixing. When TH or THGuard finds an infection, it will place it in the Quarantine folder when it cleans it. You can see your Quarantine folder via the TH scanner GUI. Also, before you run scans with TH, always run its LiveUpdate to ensure that you have the latest detection rulesets. Gavin/Magnus normally issue new detection rulesets daily and sometimes more than once per day. Quote:| also with TH now, in regular mode, I cant enter the "schedule" part of the program "Access Denied". but in safe mode I can. |
| Are you signed on under a user account that has full administrative privileges? If not, please switch to such an account and see if you can schedule. Quote:Is it possible that I had one, and it ended up damaging something in NIS and/or Windows Security Center? |
| Yes, that is possible. There are several cybercriminal infections that disable various security programs as part of the attack. Do you have NIS's self protection turned on? If not, you should turn it on via the NIS settings. It is under Miscellaneous Settings and is Norton Product Tamper Protection Quote:One other question, in safe mode, should your windows firewall be up and running. mine is not. I could understand it not for troubleshooting purposes, but at the same time, I cant get it to turn on in safe mode. |
| This is probably NIS preventing you from turning on the Windows firewall. When you work in SAFE MODE, you should not use the Network connection capability because it does expose you to possible attack. Quote:As you can see it didnt do anything with those 2 lines. |
| Would you please repeat the HJT fixes. BE SURE that you are signed on with a user account having full administrative privileges. Although nothing is showing up in your HJT log as an infection, you might try running a scan with SuperAntiSpyware (SAS). 1. Download/install the Free Home User version of SAS from the link below. http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefreevspro.html 2. Be sure that you obtain its latest detection rulesets via its update option. 3. Reboot your computer into SAFE MODE and run a Complete System scan with SAS. Let it quarantine/fix anything it finds. 4. Reboot back into normal mode and post the SAS scan log back here please.
