Trojan Horse Dialer 28k Help me Please !!

Hi all,

I have a current updated version of AVG Free Edition.

Today while performing an AVG scan i had a Trojan Horse Dialer 28k show up in the 'threats' area while scanning.
Once the scan had ended i find now that it isn't like the usual method of deleting these.

I have had it appear in the Virus Vault, After this i have right klicked on it and deleted only to find it shows itself during a scan immediately after.
It has also mentioned that it needs to be ' healed ' , Look this is hard to grasp when ever i read about it as new words ared added every second line in most instances.
Is there a pc surgeon who can heal this problem permanently ?

Also when it is scanning it used to finish somewhere around 88,000 files or so. Now its around 35 or 40,000 worth..Recently i did erase a lot of photo's that were taking up space, would this have caused the longer scans or is it the Trojan at work slowing thigns up..

Yeah i know not a lot about the repair of these wonderful machines.

Sorry for all the ? marks on an initial enquiry first post,
But i really would like to remove this monster, lol

Cheers,

Welcome to the forum mashy  Wink

Please do the following:

1.  Download/install Hijackthis per the instructions in the link below.

http://www.misec.net/forum/board/FAQ/1163329424

2.  Go to the link below and download program Combofix.exe and save it on your desktop.

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

3.  Temporarily de-activate all your security programs EXCEPT your software firewall.

4.  Close down as many programs as you can (programs in the Notification Tray-  next to the clock).

5.  Close your browser.

6.  Double click on Combofix.exe to execute it and follow the instructions.

Please note, that once you start ComboFix you should not click anywhere on the ComboFix window as it can cause the program to stall. In fact, when ComboFix is running, do not touch your computer at all and just take a break as it may take a while for it to complete.

-  When Combofix.exe is finished, it will save a log on your system.

7.  Post the Combofix log back here

8.  Run Hijackthis and post a HiJackthis scan log back here.  DO NOT fix anything with HJT...just post the scan log.

Hi Siliconman01,

I followed the directions after printing them out, downloaded programs mentioned to have this come up when i tried to run ComboFix.
"Windows cannot find "%systemroot%\regit.exe You may have typed the name incorrectly in the Run dialog, or another open program cannot find a system file. To Search for a file, Click the Start Button, and then click Search"

I then opened up search and di a search where they were found easily, tried to double click on them to have same window appear shortly after hitting the button.

Can you run a Hijackthis scan?  If so, please post the scan log.

It certainly looks like there are significant problems.

If you boot into SAFE MODE, can you run Hijackthis?

Yes, try to Hijackthis and save the log.

Then reboot back into Normal Mode and post the log back here.

In addition to my post above:

Try to run a REMOTE SCAN using Bit Defender from the link below.

http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

1.  Use Internet Explorer to access the above site.  Bit Defender will need to download/install an ActiveX component to run the scan.  Please let it do so.

2.  DO NOT download the Free Trial of Total Security 2008.  Just click on the license "I agree" and use the online scanner.

3.  Temporarily disable all of your security programs EXCEPT your software firewall prior to running the scan.

4.  Be sure to scan your full system...all disks.

5.  Let Bit Defender quarantine whatever it finds.

6.  Post back here the scan log of the online remote scan.

7.  Reboot your computer after the remote scan is completed.

8.  Once rebooted, try to run Hijackthis again.  Post a Hijackthis log back here.

Back again..
I took note of what you posted earlier,
Regarding type of windows i have, Its 98ME
Service Pack number, again we hit a speed hump as i am uncertain as to where to find this particular number.

Have gone to Bit Defender site and am currently performing a scan as suggested. At first the initial loading of the program did have some sort of an error saying it may not be able to do it 100% and did i want to proceed, I have and am waiting the outcome..

Earlier i again tried the Hijackthis program and had this come up. This was in normal mode as i tried first up then went to Bit Defender.

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2
Scan saved at 11:04:11, on 23/06/2008
Platform: Windows ME (Win9x 4.90.3000)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106)
Boot mode: Normal

So i attempted to run Bit Defender. It basically stopped at near the end of the scan, sat stuck it seemed, for ten minutes with only the time of scan clock ticking over.
Then a microsoft error report box came up...i opted for no then Bit Defender shut down, disapeared.
The entire time it ran was around 1.20 hours in duration

Would i be better off going back to an abacus for information ? As it seems my pc is level with what flows mostly out of seagulls exhausts.
