Help Me Please!?
« on: Mar 11th, 2008, 12:02am »
Quote Quote  Modify Modify

Hello all,

Forst time poster, long time reader, I like walks on the beach and bah lets get on with it.

I have something in my computer I do not want and I can't deal with it so I have come to you super humans with hands out wanting advice.

I believe it has something to do with WinA, winAB sort of things, they are opening up Dos prompt and trying to do evil things no doubt.  It is also trying to do random pop ups etc.

I am running Trend Micro PC-Cillian and it seems to be stopping it from doing stuff but I want it gone from my system as it also seems to be slowing it down.

No doubt you will also find a few thousand other things I can get rid of.

What should I do, help and instruct me, thanks!! Undecided

Yes, your HJT log shows that you are infected.

1.  Please download/install the trial version of TrojanHunter.  The download link is at the top of the forum page.

2.  The trial version does not permit automatic LiveUpdate.  Therefore after you get TH installed, please manually update the detection rules manually to the latest version.  The link below describes how to do this.

http://www.misec.net/trojanhunter/updating/

3.  Then reboot your computer into SAFE MODE.

4.  Run a FULL scan of your system with TrojanHunter Scanner.  Let it quarantine what it detects as malicious.

5.  Reboot your computer back into Normal Mode.

6.  Post back here the TH scan log.  It is found as a .txt file in C:\Program Files\TrojanHunter 5.0\Scan Reports.

7.  Post a new Hijackthis scan log.

In addition to my post above:

1.  I see you are using an older version of HiJackthis.  Would you please install V2.0.2 of HJT from Trend Micro as per the link below.

http://www.misec.net/forum/board/FAQ/1163329424

Please do not install it on your Desktop because this prevents HJT from saving backups when it fixes things.

2.  Your version of JAVA is out-of-date.  Update 5 has been released.  Please go to the link below and update JAVA.

http://www.java.com

After the update is installed, remove all the old versions of JAVA.
-  Go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel to remove the old updates.

Ok I have done what you said.  I am still getting pop ups and ms dos prompt trying to start with something.

I did the 'Quick Scan' option or should I have done 'Full scan' with TH?

Please run a FULL scan with TH scanner.  Boot into SAFE MODE to do this.  Let it quarantine what it finds.

No, you did not do anything wrong.  TH failed to detect a couple of new malicious items.  Would you please do the following:

1.  Make all your files and folders visible as per the instructions in the link below.

http://www.misec.net/forum/board/FAQ/1139610900

2.  Please submit the following files to Mischel Internet Security for analysis.  These files are in your C:\Windows\System32 folder.  The link below describes how to submit files.

http://www.misec.net/forum/board/FAQ/1139308293

Files to submit:

winrzf32.dll
yaywusr.dll

3.  After submitting the files above, please download file combofix.exe and save it onto your desktop.

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

4. Then de-activate your anti-virus program and close down all programs EXCEPT your software firewall.  These are the programs in the Notification Tray next to the clock.  Be sure to close your browser too.

5.  Now doubleclick on Combofix.exe on your desktop.

-  ComboFix will begin to run. When it runs, it will do the below in order to most effectively perform its job:
-  It will terminate some running processes.
-  It will set your clock to a 24 hour setting (will be restored to normal when finished running properly)
-  It will disconnect your PC from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before ComboFix completes its run. (If ComboFix runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.)
-  If malware is found, ComboFix will reboot your PC automatically when finished with the scan.
-  When you PC restarts and after you log back in, ComboFix will finish running and create a log. Do not interrupt this process.

Notes:
-  Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
-  Do not attempt to use the internet or run anything else while it is running as you will most likely interfere with what it needs to do.
When finished, it will produce a log ( C:\combofix.txt ) for you. You will need to attach this log to your next message.

6.  Post the ComboFix.txt log back here.

7.  Post a new Hijackthis log.

Okay, Combofix.exe got the two nasty critters off your system.

Your HJT scan log is showing no infections.

Are you still getting popups and the MS DOS window?

Nope, all seems fine.

Is there anything else I should do.  Like the big red Bold warning about a recovery console or something?

I would like for you to remove combofix.exe from your desktop, yes.  You can leave HJT on your system because you may need it again later.  You can remove TH if you wish.  BE SURE to close down THGuard before you run the TH uninstaller.

There is a "Quarantine folder" that Combofix created under C:\ that you should also remove.

If all is running fine, then it looks like we are done.

There is a Qoobox Folder, in it is the quarantine folder and a BackEnv folder

Delete the Qoobox folder or just the quarantine folder inside it?

I have removed TH and combofix
