Smitfraud and Trojans

G'Day Folks,

Since 2004 and in recent month ( seems to have reared it’s ugly head again) I have been attempting to track the consequence of the SmitFraud variants and positive and fake reporting of the Blue Screen of Death, and loaders i.e. downloading of and then installing other Trojans like the "Trojan-pushu" "Trojan.gen" and the other multiple installations of more Trojans, worms, viruses, etc.

Does anyone have a definitive answer i.e. solution to this problem - other than formatting the HDD ?

Addendum:
Having tried the top 20 Internet Security Suites and other programs that were supposed to remove and or protect ones PC system from this and other Trojans, worms and viruses, I am getting to the conclusion that these protection and or removal products are no more than a ruse (rip-off) getting your and my money for not protecting our PC systems.

The controversy surrounding this protection racket, i.e. Internet Security, Spam, Trojan, worm, adware, spyware, etc., etc. is getting out of hand (so what else is new) and has gotten progressively worse since 1978 (last 20 years) More so over the last 10 month, where the latest protective programs fail miserably in protecting our PC systems against the older know destructive payload, of Trojans, virus, and the like.

This protection racked – is worth billions of dollars each year to the individuals and Companies (Publishers) of the so called protection programs, so no wonder they don’t want bill Gates to change the codes. Seems we might be better of changing to a Mac. Mind you the 1st virus was written for a Unix system, which did not get far as the codes for the OS like on the Mac, would not execute the destructive payload.

These destructive payloads now are responsible for approximately 15 billion dollars of lost productivity each year – and the governments of the world are having Luncheon Meetings (have been for the last 20 years) to investigate the consequence and or penalties (laws) that should be introduced. Like the Anti-Spam Laws which are now proving to be a waste of time, it looks as though it is up to Microsoft to change the codes or we change to Mac’s.

Ok, so here is my 1st post on this forum, with more than adequate background influencing information on the subject.

BTW: PC Tools, nor TropjanHunter removes these payload infections.  Roll Eyes (The Devil made me say that, but it's true)
 Grin

Welcome to the forum pcbugfixer  Wink

The frustration you are vocalizing here is understandable.  However, I can assure that the guys and gals who are in the security software development industry are working very hard trying to stay ahead of the cybercriminals who have turned the Internet into a global multi-billion dollar criminal activity.

Do you also call your local police department a "racket" because crime still exists and the criminals do not always get caught/convicted/sentenced ?  I doubt that you do...maybe so...but I doubt it.  Smiley

It is a well publicized position of even the top security gurus that:

-  criminal activity via malware on the Internet is growing at a faster pace than the security experts can react or pro-act to.

-  cyber criminals have become very sophisticated in their ability to outwit even the best of the security software systems.  It is no longer a "fun and games" activity.  It is a highly integrated criminal activity whose goal is money.

-  john doe public is unknowingly aiding in the criminal activity through weak or no security defenses on their computers.

-  it will get worse before it gets better...if ever.

-  Macs and Linux are also conducive to cyber criminal breaches

-  the only 100% effective defense is to unplug totally from the Internet and shut down the computers.

Sure...the security software industry is a multi-billion dollar industry.  So is the criminal justice system world wide.

Debating "Reality" is a never-ending endeavor that often leads to no productive conclusions or outcome.

Finding 100% solutions is often an impossibility, but its a journey worth taking.

Interesting reply - debate - take me on anytime!

There is a fast difference between “Internet Security” i.e. securing a PC user against fraudulent activity and of protecting  a users Passwords, Bank, Credit card, and other personal information and that of malicious software payloads being installed through Spyware, Malware, Adware, Trojans, Worms, Viruses, etc. hidden from the unsuspecting user on URL’s that they may visit or through so to speak “Free Software, Tool Bars and Computer Utilities” that profess to protect and or enhance the users experience and or assisting them in optimizing the use and otherwise improve the speed and reduce errors occurring on their PC system.

The corruption in Police Forces and other Judiciary Agencies  world wide is also nothing new and yes if they are crook, then they are also involved in the criminal activity racket from which they profess to protect us and those involved are also Racketeers or Criminals, whichever you like or prefer to call them.

It should not be of a great revelation that we know that there are crooks in the “Internet Security” industry selling Internet Security Suites for protection against malicious software payloads, Viruses, etc. praying on Novice PC users, by generating some of the very same malicious codes from which they then offer to protect us from!

It comes to no surprise to most of us, that we have a new Virus, Trojan or other malicious code released and within hour, a (one) particular Anti-WhateverName Publisher has a solution for it providing we purchase their product, or on the other hand the publisher offers to resolve an infection issue, when in fact they cannot.

Noteworthy is also the fact that in some instances a particular type of malicious codes can only be cleaned by a particular publisher of or to the solution.  Whereas we may think that a lot of these codes come from the Eastern block countries (Russia, Romania, etc) or the Asian countries (China, Korea, India, etc) it should also not come as a surprise that most come from the good old USA and some bad ones have even come from Australia.

This is in addition to the Phishing and other fraudulent attempts to Hijack the information from a users PC, again I would suggest that this is a separate security issue and has different consequences and results.

Attempting to steal my car is one thing, putting sugar in the petrol tank to foul the function of the engine in the car, is another!

Phishing and other attempts to hijack a computer for the purpose of obtaining Bank and other confidential information is steeling or theft, malicious codes on the other hand foul the function of your computer operating system (engine) and data making it un-usable for what reason?

I will leave you to think and contemplate on these remarks and know revelations.

You have a good day now you hear and don’t loose any sleep over it.  Grin

The world may not be an idealic place, however there is no justification why some among us, so called human beings, defecate on the rest of us.  Roll Eyes
