Trojan likely gone but ...

Hi,
Trojanhunter seems to have rid my pc of trojanclicker182 and 223. So no more browser popups and ms office install attempts for now. That's the good news.

The virus (or whatever I have) is still affecting Windows Explorer. I can't right click on anything. Start/run and start/search is still gone. I can't look at the properties of anything. I can't do a restore of earlier settings because that is disabled. I can't even do a safe mode dos prompt restore because it tells me to go to normal mode and enable restore which won't work. Usually when I try to do these things I get a 'restricted' error message.

The best I can tell is that I got hit in a big way and the trojanclicker was an addon of the more serious program that still has hold of my windows.

Any suggestions. I have done a full scan with trojanhunter but windows is still disabled.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum mignight  Cheesy

Yes it sounds like you obtained a double payload.  Please do this:

-  Go to the site below and download HiJackThis 1.99.1.
-  Install HJT in a dedicated folder on your hard drive...not on the desktop or in a temporary folder.
-  Once you get it installed in its folder, go to the folder and rename  HiJackThis.exe to some other unique name such as  AnalyzeMe.exe.

-  Then run a scan of your system with "AnalyzeMe.exe" and post the scan log back here on this thread.

Broken settings, try SRENG System Repair Engineer which can restore many settings including some of these. On FIX the first 2 tabs can be used to fix all, and/or the far right tab auto fix.

In worst case, use FULL fix, it has never broken anything for me. It just shouldn't be used on business PC with group and domain policies and such because vital settings will be removed.

Once you have Start > Run, go there and type

CHKDSK /F

Run that, press Y and enter to schedule a repair. Reboot when you have a while to let it check the disk, 5-20 minutes depending.

Last resort might then be to run a repair install and immediately get all Windows Updates (62 or so! since XPSP2)
