I restarted my computer in safe mode and ran the TH scan with all settings checked.  TH found mljjkih.dll but could not remove it.  I also downloaded Unlocker to unlock the file but the computer would atomatically restart after a few warning memory messages.

Could someone kindly help me with this!!!!

You have the Vundo.b trojan which is a bugger to remove.  Please go to the link below and download Symantec's tool to fix this.  Print out the removal instructions so that you have them readily available.

Then Reboot into SAFE MODE and follow Symantec's procedure to remove this nasty guy.

Following the removal, boot back into normal mode and run another HJT scan and post back here.  There are some other problems that need to be corrected.

Update:

It's my understanding that these critters have now been added to TrojanHunter's ruleset.  Please update to the latest TH ruleset before you boot into SAFE MODE to use the Symantec Removal Tool.

Then before you run the Symantec Removal Tool, run a full scan by TH scanner and see if it removes these malicious elements (in SAFE MODE).  Wink

Note: If you are running the trial version of TH, please go to the link below to get the latest updates.

I updated the latest ruleset for TH and ran the scan under safemode but this time it didn't find the file.  I also followed the instructions for the symantec vundo fix under safe mode and it said:
     Symantec Trojan.Vundo Removal Tool 1.5.0

     C:\System Volume Information: (not scanned)
Trojan.Vundo has not been found on your computer.

Please run another HJT scan and post it back here.  Perhaps the malicious files got removed.

When I did the TH scan it also picked up this file:
   pmnnn.dll
I also have nod32 antivirus program.  When i run nod32 it says that the file (mljjkih.dll) is a variant of Win32/TrojanDownloader.ConHook.  I don't know if this is much help?

Does NOD32 attempt to remove this infection?

Please try this:

Reboot your computer.

Disable NOD32 so that it will not lock out any files that are infections.

Run a full TH scan and let it attempt to quarantine what it finds.

After TH has cleaned/quarantined, reboot and see if the files

mljjkih.dll
pmnnn.dll

are still present in your C:\Windows\System32 folder.

If they are not, please post another HJT log.

If they are still present, locate mljjkih.dll and right click on it.  Select "Unlocker" from the menu.  When the box appears, select Delete All and then OK for deleting.

NOTE:, You might BSOD when Unlocker attempts to delete.  That is okay.  Reboot and see if the file is still present.

If it is not present, repeat the delete process for pmnnn.dll .  Reboot again and see if this file is still present.

If they are gone, please post another HJT scan log.

When I disabled nod32 and ran TH it detected the file but said that it could not delete because it is being used by another process.  It said that it will be deleted after reboot but it was never deleted.  I then tried to unlock and delete the file.  When I select unlock, after right clicking the file, it said that the file had 4 paths locked.  Two paths were for winlogon.exe, one for explorer.exe, and one for CLI.exe(ATI graphics file).  After I selected delete there was no OK button but there were "Unlock", "Unlock ALL", and "Kill Process" buttons.  I used "Unlock ALL" and the computer said that I was accessing a read only part of memory and automically shutdown and reboot.  After searching and running HJT upon reboot I still found the file.  I tried to "Unlock" each process path individually and on one of the winlogon.exe paths the computer gave the same trying to access a read only part of memory and same actions ocurred.  Also, while the TH scan ocurred I noticed that TH recognized the file as Vundo.100 and when nod32 ran its scan it detected the file as Win32/TrojanDownloader.ConHook.  Here is the scan of HJT:

I've e-mailed the big guns to step in here.  I've exhausted my tricks.  There is obviously something very unique about these two infections.  I'm not sure they are the same variety of infection.

Magnus and or Gavin will hopefully jump in and resolve this.

One thing we have not tried is to use KillBox to kill these critters.

Please go to the link below and download Killbox

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/killbox.php

You can extract it to your desktop.  Please read the usage instructions while at the website.

Once you get it extracted on your desktop, activate KillBox.  Paste in the following line

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mljjkih.dll

Then press the Delete File button.

It will ask you to reboot.  Reboot.

Check to see if mljjkih.dll is now gone.

If it is gone, repeat for

C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnnn.dll

If the two files are now gone, please post another HJT scan log.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

I think these files (mljjkih.dll and pmnnn.dll) have been integrated into the operating system files.  Where they have interrupted the process paths for operating system files.  Meaning that whatever operating system process is in use this file is also being used.

This is just a suggestion as to how this file is behaving based on the scanning of TH, nod32, and several experiences in deleting the files.
