AVK reports trojan-dropper

After updating my AVK-engines ( KAV+RAV ) and making a scan of the harddisk it reported the following:

Objekt: "Scout.EXE" in Pfad "C:\Programme\TCCD Scout\scouteasy". Status: "Virus gefunden". Virus: "TrojanDropper:Win32/Checkin (RAV-Engine)"

This file is since a long time on my drive but is reported just now after the updates.
Could this be a false positive ?

Please tell me something about it.

Not sure, Peter.

I found a lot of German-language sites by searching for TCCD scout easy virus on Google.

Perhaps it's being detected because it really does contain a virus dropper? It seems to be concerned with cloning copy-protected CDs and so on (like those audio disks with the broken data track designed to prevent playback on a computer). This is the sort of tool that may be popular with trojan/virus writers who have written their own version as a way to spread malicious code.

Or maybe AVK is now in league with Sony and is doing them a favour by removing CD cloning tools!

Looks to be a FP.

It appears to be a legit program for analyzing the copy protection method used  on CD's & DVD's. So that a true 1:1 backup of the original disc can be created.

Personally I would check it with the Kaspersky online scanner just to be sure. If the Kaspersky scanner does not detect anything you should submit it as a FP.

THX for fast response.

KAV online-scanner says its ok. But AVK found it with RAV-engine, so I´m not sure about the result.

You are right the easyscout-program was/is a tool for copying CD´s. But till now there were no reports about a trojan-dropper in it. May be with the next update of AVK the problem is removed.

THX again, will keep on searching.

Good news! I was a little concerned about the type of program (a bit like all the DVD-ripper software - never entirely sure about who wrote them), but if it's confirmed FP, then play on!
