Can you post the link to that thread, Walter? Sounds like a confusion of terms. 'Backdoor' refers to the way in that may be opened by something simple for something more complex. Anything that opens a backdoor is, therefore, a Trojan (from history - the simple force opened the gates for the more complex - erm, bigger - force. I hate it when analogies get stretched like that!). The more complex program may be a Trojan, virus, keylogger, password stealer, remote access client, DDOS (distributed denial of service) bot, or anything out of a very wide choice of malware things. 'Malware' is a compaction of 'malicious software', so it stands to reason that all sorts of stuff, including 'backdoors' are covered by this. Just to muddy the waters, there is a non-malicious use of the term 'backdoor', used by software writers to provide access even when the users have completely forgotten any access codes of their own (including Administrator). These are guarded like the Crown Jewels because they are hard-coded into the application and cannot normally be shut down or changed if discovered (a program would have to be patched, which is costly). There are also 'droppers', though these are normally linked with viruses, so for example a naughty piccy may actually drop a nasty on the PC whilst the viewer is ... otherwise occupied. 'Remote execution tool' sounds like the remote access client - sort of a locked door to a remote PC for which the 'hacker' has the key, allowing access any time. It could also refer to the DDOS bot, which listens for instructions to start flooding a specific domain or IP with deliberately corrupted information, in the hope it will crash whatever's being flooded and generally cause bother to whoever looks after it. AdAware does detect software that deliberately disables some security software, reducing the protection on a PC in a similar manner to Trojans, so I have heard of this before.
