trojans and stuff

Ok here I am inroducing myself to the forum.  I am a college student and I am doing a research project on malware (malicious software) .  I am now a registered user of trojan hunter. In my researching efforts I stumbled across quite a few trojans. I have started sending them to Mischel for evaluation starting today Oct 24. The trojan database for trojan hunter should be growing by leaps and bounds (as soon as he can evaluate everything I have sent him Wink I hope that he will be able to beat out his more expensive competition soon. We wont be mentioning any names here but with my help he WILL surpass them. Anyone who wishes to discuss trojans with me please let me know I have learned quite a bit about them during the course of my research.
         Thanks for listening,

  Hello  and  welcome , Calicobard

It is good  to  know that TH's database  will grow with your help.
"Them" have  larger databases  but TH has support , no heuristics false positives , an open and receptive forum and , at least in my case , NO bugs .
I  consider those qualities of TH vastly superior against  the quantitative  approach of "them".

 Regards ,

I just got done sending another batch of trojans to magnus. One in particular I am interested in what he has to say about it. It is the one called malicious (i have heard that it is particularly nasty and destructive) but I have not taken the time to do a hexdump/char string search on it to see what it is trying to do. I eagerly await what magnus has to say about that little gem.

                    thanks,

It's actually not that malicious, as far as I can tell from the initial analysis. It's not memory-resident, and all it does is the following:

Code:

SetValueEx      HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoDesk top
SetValueEx      HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoClos e
SetValueEx      HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoFind
SetValueEx      HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\DisableR egi
stryTools
SetValueEx

...meaning it disables registry editing, the find, shutdown and run dialogs and hides the Windows desktop after a reboot.

Hi Calicobard,
I don't want to start arguing or ranting but on Wilder's Forum
you said you wanted to make TH the#3 AT behind two others
competitors. Is it not contradictory with your statement
"with my help he will surpass them"? Wink
Anyway thanks for helping the"growth" of TH's database.
Regards

Sorry that I confused you claire. The them I was referring to were the others below numbers 1 and 2.  Wink IE The Cleaner, Pest Patrol (though I think TH surpasses that one already) Tauscan and all the others on down the line of other "quality" trojan killer proggies.  Sorry for the confusion amd I hope I have cleared the muddy water.
