if outlook sp1 blocks a file when and I was to forward it for inspection would the file still be attached?

I recieved a suspicious email from someone I do not know.  There was an attachment that outlook blocked (good I think)
named detection.bak  (sounds like a virus or trojan to me).  now I would like to forward it on for analysis but I do not think the file will go with the e-mail if I just forward it.  I have a program to release outlook from blocking the extension but am hesitant to use it in this instance.

any help? Huh

I don't use Outlook (Allah be praised), but I did have one thought. If you haven't removed the email from your provider's server, you may, if you have web access to your email account, be able to forward from webmail, even if the file has been deleted from your HDD

unfortunately it is gone from the server.  however the file isnt deleted, outlook has just blocked it from executing.  I can remove the block and may have to, to see if it is dangerous but i won't do that until I am all backed up.

What about removing the filename extension, so that it can't run. Or renaming the extension to something on Outlook's approved list? If I understand you correctly, all you want to do is be able to forward the email, to an AV vendor, I assume. So, if you renamed detection.bak to just detection, or detection.txt, you might then be able to forward the file, along with an explanation of the fact that the renaming was done to get around Outlook's security measures.

that is correct however outlook restricts all access(modifying/renaming ect.)  I have backed all the important stuff up and will remove the security patch. and see what happenes.  If nothing happens, I will forward the file and reformat.  maybe I am being too paranoid Undecided but you cant be too careful.
will let you know what happens.
