If you're asking whether or not a problem with a peripheral could indicate a trojan then I'd say it's not all that likely given you have no other indications. Can it be done? Most certainly - many of the newer trojans allow an adversary to supply specially crafted plug-ins to the trojan server, thus making it possible to write a plug-in that changes the settings for peripherals.
