Speed of Detection

Hi all,

I have just ran the Simulator and I was surprise at how long it took TH Guard 2.54 to detect it. It takes between 2 and 3 seconds on my machine after installing before TH Guard finds it. I am running an AMD Athlon 2000+ with 512Mb RAM with Win XP Home SP1. Am I right in thinking that this takes a long time or are my expectations to high? Anyone have any similar comparisons?

Cheers,

   Hello  , acheton

    Also  with W.XP home SP-1 , but with a slower machine (PIII, 866MHz , 384RAM) .
In my case  THGuard also takes 2/3 seconds to appear .I really don't know if it is important , as you have to consider that the delay is related to THGuard' graphics , probably its engine is faster --- of course zero expertise here behind  my conclusion.
Anyway  we both see that processor and RAM have little influence here .

Interesting, I wonder whether TH Guard works by simply scanning processes periodically or whether it catches a process as it starts.

I think that the graphics is a bit of a red herring though, TH Scanner only takes a couple of seconds to open and that is at least twice the size of TH Guard.

May be it isn't important.

I checked using just a second hand on a clock, not a stop watch. I'm using an AMD Athlon XP 1900 with raid enabled, PC 2700 512 mb, and WinXP. It took 2 seconds at the most for the TGuard to slam it. I'm using TH 2.54.

I thought that I read that a competing product (BO....) will find trojans in memory within 10 seconds which is enough time to prevent havoc, so maybe 2 or 3 seconds is pretty good.

Rav, this was posted to securecomp last month by Nancy,
"BOClean 4.10 is a bit different, it scans the registry and memory that is not being used (like that holding a minimized program) every 10 seconds.  Active memory surveillance is continuous, detection are instantaneous.  We put a lot of work into this one."

I always wanted to look at that proggie, but alas no trial...

I can tell you, I had to personally call Digital River to get my money back, because of their "no trial" policy..Nancy from Privacy Software Corp ignored EVERY Email I sent (only 2) pertaining to my wanting my money back... Bad business, if you ask me...Since they had no trial, I took them up on their 30 days "no hassles" money back guarantee... I did not care for it, and they lost!

And for anyone that tells you, you don't need an on demand scanner, I strongly disagree!  My nephew downloaded a zip file which contained a trojjie (NetDevil 150). Yeah, I know, it's harmless if it's not working., but hey, you know?  I want my computer clean!  TrojanHunter detected it easily in an on demand scan...

In that short period I had BOClean, it did detect Trojan Simulator, and cleaned it, I just did not like the lack of an on demand scanner, and I think Trojan Hunter tells you more info in what it cleans...

I had TDS-3, too... It was okay, but it was WAY too complicated for me, and I didn't the need for it. Plus, it was very "intense" on my system, causing constant freeze ups, etc...

FYI, I am still trialing TrojanHunter, and I like it, but I want to take my time this time before I spend my money.. I most like ly will, though...

Just so you know Straight Shooter, so far there has been no cost to upgrade to any new version of the Trojan Hunter Program, so if you decide that you like it, there is no 1 year from date of purchase to worry about yet.

I'm running an Athlon 2000+ with 512MB RAM, Win2K, and the Guard took absolutely no more than 2 seconds to detgect it. The insdtallation dialog box had just appeared when the Guard popped up - no stopwatch but it would have been in the 1-2 second range, rather than 2-3.
