Version 5.3 of TrojanHunter is now available for download:

  http://www.misec.net/products/TrojanHunterSetup.exe

________________________________________________
TrojanHunter 5.3 Build 994 (Released 2010-03-15)
  (Beta 1: 2010-02-25)
  (Beta 2: 2010-03-07)

  • Improved bug reporting
  • Fixed a problem where the presence of NTFS alternate data streams attached to directories was not being reported
  • Improved deletion of alternate data streams (now correctly removes directories and is also able to delete specific alternate data streams as opposed to all alternate data streams associated with a file)
  • THCL: Now states "No trojans found" or "%d trojans found" in scan report
  • THCL: Copyright year updated
  • Fixed bug causing exception if scanner was closed when a right-click scan was running
  • Added "A scan is running. Exit anyway?" confirmation if user tries to close scanner when a scan is running.
  • Fixed bug where TrojanHunter was not scanning shortcut files correctly when doing a right-click scan.
  • Fixed problem with right-click scanning RAR files not working

Thanks Magnus posted at Calender Of Updates! Also it would be best if you have Version 5.2 installed is to uninstall it before installing version 5.3 as it leaves the 5.2 folder with all the old files in C:\Program Files

I just wondering why put the number after the the Folder in C:\Program Files\TrojanHunter 5.3 ?

If you removed the number at the end can we just install over the top and keep all of our License info and settings intact? Like when we go to version 6.0 we will have to uninstall again?

Also, soon new program versions will be pushed out via LiveUpdate. This will avoid the hassle of having to uninstall/reinstall. I will post here when this happens.

Hello,

I installed following the instructions, but I still get Windows  'Run Application' dialogue when right clicking a exe file.

Any similar observations or am I missing something?

What Windows operating system are you running?  And is it 32 bit or 64 bit?  And if it is Vista or Windows 7, do you have UAC enabled?

When you say "a exe file", do you mean that you right click on the executable file and select "Scan with TrojanHunter"?  If so, click on RUN in that dialogue box.  Instead of the executable actually running, TrojanHunter will start up and perform the scan.

This issue is discussed in the link below:

Windows XP Pro, 32-bit

Yes, right click to scan using TH, and am aware of clicking on Run.

Moreover I observed, TH after scanning did not give any Zone.Identifier msg in TH ScanReport. The file I scanned can be found on -
http://explore.multimap.com/Toolbox/toolsSpecific_outlookaddin.aspx

Thought 5.3 will resolve it.

From Magnus's post on the link below:

http://www.misec.net/forum/board/THBugs/1268031029

Quote:
In version 5.3, TrojanHunter no longer logs the following three types of alternate data streams:

Thumbs.db:encryptable

Zone.Identifier

favicon

That's because these very common harmless streams are found on nearly every system and logging them does more to confuse users than help identify anything malicious.

TrojanHunter still does log every other stream it encounters if the appropriate option is enabled, just not these very common ones created by Microsoft. This will be helpful because those streams which really could cause concern will not be buried in log messages about favicon streams.
