`Select folders to scan' mystery

I'm probably being very slow on the uptake here! In the `Select folders to scan' subwindow in TH Scanner, I check the folders I wish to scan and uncheck those I don't wish to scan. Now the question is, how do I get TH to scan just the folders I've checked, please? Hitting the Quick Scan button results in ALL folders being scanned. Hitting the Custom Scan button results in no folders being scanned by default, and the Edit Custom Scan List dialog only provides the option of adding `File scan', which appears to mean ALL files. Hitting the Full Scan button results in everything being scanned. Have I missed something? Many thanks.

It sounds like your "TreeState.dat" file is messed up.

-  Close down the TH GUI if it is open.

-  Using Search, find the file named TreeState.dat

-  Delete TreeState.dat

-  Open the TH GUI.  TreeState.dat will automatically be rebuilt.

When TreeStat.dat is rebuilt, all active disks on your system will be set for complete scan.  This includes all files and folders on the these disks.

In the TH GUI "Select folders to Scan" window, this applies to disks/folders/files that will be scanned when you click on FULL SCAN.  It also applies to disks/folders/files that will be scanned in a Custom Scan IF you have select "File Scan" in the Custom File scan setup.

To set up a Custom Scan:

1.  Go to Scan in the top menu bar of the TH GUI.

2.  Select Edit Custom Scan List in the drop down menu.  A new window will open.

3.  In the new window, move the items that are Available Scans: to the Selected Scans: area.

4.  When done selecting the Scan items, click on OK to save and close this small window.

5.  If in step 3, you selected "File Scan", set up your disks/folders to be scanned via the SCAN icon in the left icon bar.

6.  To run a Custom Scan, click on the Custom Scan icon.

Many thanks for responding. Sounds like good advice. Trouble is, TreeStat.dat isn't just messed up - it doesn't exist on my system. Perhaps I need to reinstall the whole program?

You probably need to make all your files and folders visible via the link below.

The reason the .dat file couldn't be found wasn't that it was hidden, but that its name is TreeState.dat, not TreeStat.dat. After deleting it and resetting the scan options, things seem to be working fine. Thanks again for your kind help.
