Enable Right Click Click Scanning

Hey Ya'll,
I posted yesterday but thought I had solved the problem so here I am again,  I uninstalled TH 4 and then reinstalled TH 5.0 after removing all remnants of  TH4.  Since the new install I have been unable to get Right Click File Scanning to work, I enable it at the bottom of the scanning options page but it will not activate and when I recheck it is not enabled.  Any help appreciated.

Thanks Ed

Welcome to the forum ejhart  Cheesy

Would you please open the folder TrojanHunter 5.0 at C:\Program Files\TrojanHunter 5.0 and see if you have a file named ContextMenu.dll in the folder.

Okay, that Contextmenu.dll file is the problem with right click scanning.  It should be contmenu.dll.  I have emailed Magnus asking him to provide a corrected downloadable version of TH V5.0.962.

There is nothing you can do until Magnus provides this corrected source.  Would you please e-mail him as well at support@misec.net asking for assistance on this issue.  Provide the link to this forum thread in your email.

I apologize for the hassle it is causing you, but only Magnus can resolve this problem.   Embarassed

I had hoped that Trojan Hunter (Magnus) having received the money for my Continued Subscription would at least have the decency to respond to my problem, I was apparently mistaken, no reflection of the Forum Mods, I know you have done your best to help, time to go shopping again.

Hi siliconman,

Why is the file contextmenu.dll the problem?

I do have contextmenu.dll and I AM able to do a right-click-scan.
This is on XP-home SP2 Dutch.
MD5:
The file C:\Program Files\TrojanHunter 5.0\ContextMenu.dll has the following Checksum(s)
MD5 - BCF7C075294B970343DFDE3A460F3AB7

As I posted in this thread on 11 Feb 2008:
http://www.misec.net/forum/board/TrojanHunter/1202470345

With a fresh installation of the latest build there was the following change (among other things):

1. contmenu.dll was deleted.
2. contextmenu.dll was new added

Yes, there is that Option saying "Enable Right-Click Scanning", but I AM able to do a right-click-scan.

Yes, jrb

You are correct.  ContextMenu.dll does work and right click scanning does work with ContextMenu.dll instead of contmenu.dll.

I just completely uninstalled TH on both my XP-SP2 system and Vista SP1 system, re-downloaded the Trial Version from the forum link at the top, and installed TH again on both systems.  Right click scanning does work with Contextmenu.dll.

When I did this before a few weeks back, right click scanning did not work with Vista and ContextMenu.dll.  Either my Vista system was messed up and installing SP1 straightened it and thereby allows ContextMenu.dll to work, or I made an early morning cockpit error when doing the testing of the updated Trial version download before.

At any rate, I was totally wrong and have e-mailed Magnus my sincere apologies for my mistake, error or whatever.   Embarassed

Right click scanning cannot be disabled, but the feature itself does work.

I apparently fell through a crack, thanks for the interest and help.  The problem exists since my change to Vista, XP worked fine with Version 5.  Since my change to Vista I have tried the change from ContextMenu.dll to contmenu.dll which did not correct the problem, additionally when I try to use the enable Right Click option for the Scanner it does not actually change, it shows enabled when you apply the initial option but if you close and reopen the Scanner it has reverted back to not enabled.  Sorry to be so much trouble, apparently Magnus is correcting the problem today.

Thanks to all,
Ed

I've been able to reproduce the problem on Vista, but the fix is a bit more complicated to produce than I first thought. I will post back here when I've been able to solve it and there's a new setup file available for download.

Thanks to all, the problem has been solved with the new installation file now available. This apparently was a pain in the neck and I very much appreciate the effort Magnus has put forth to solve the problem.

Many Thanks    Ed

Ed,

Thanks for your patience on this problem and glad to hear that you now have right-click scanning working on Vista.   Cheesy

The issue of right-click scanning is not totally resolved.  Right click scanning is functional on both XP-SP2 and Vista SP1.  However, it cannot be disabled via TH Options>Enable/Disable right click scanning on either XP-SP2 or Vista SP1.  This has been a bug since the first version 5.0.
