Some issues with TH5

My PC is XP pro, and I recently upgraded to TH 5.

I am getting a "Stream Read error" when loading TH Guard.  I found a posting on this with respect to a TreeState.dat file that should be in my C:\Documents and Settings\"User Name"\Application Data\TrojanHunter folder.

Actually, I searched my C drive, and did not have this file anywhere.

Under Administrator, and under my name as user, I did not have a TrojanHunter folder.  I placed a folder in each file path, and reloaded TH Guard, and still no TreeState.dat file.

Any suggestions, or is this a re-install issue?

Plus, after a full scan of my PC, the scanner refuses to close.   I have to terminate the program.   I did not see this mentioned before.

Assistance would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Skipmcc  Wink

Sorry that you are having trouble with the new installation of TH V5.0.  This sounds like something did not go correctly with the installation of the new version.

Please follow the steps in the link below to uninstall/re-install TH V5.0 and see if the problems go away.

SiliconeMan,

I am not sure what went wrong with the initial TH5 install, but I did reinstall it this morning.  Had a few problems, but eventually got it fixed, methinks.

Removed the old version, deleted folders in the C:\program directory, rebooted, and reinstalled with the license file.

Upon the next reboot, TH Guard did not automatically load up in the system tray (had a big red x on the icon).  Now, that was perplexing.

Tried to perform a Live Update, and it started, and then shut down.  I don't recall the error message, but then when I tried to run TH, it gave several error messages that I was missing a number of trf files.   Seems like it ran for awhile downloading files, and then stopped before finishing.  Comparing my list of downloaded trf files with what was on your website (for manual updates), I was missing about a dozen files.

So....I manually updated the files in the Rulesets folder, and then performed a live update, and everything worked fine now.

I also checked on the TreeState.dat file in the C:\Documents and Settings\"User Name"\Application Data\TrojanHunter folder, and it is there now.  That is a good thing.

Have rebooted the machine, performed live update to get today's ruleset update, and ran a check, and closed the application down, and all seems to be happy now.   I must have done something different the first time, but I don't know what.

Thx.  Have had TH for a number of years, just never had to post on the forum.  Previous versions worked great, and I very much like the daily updates to the rulesets.  It is a program I highly recommend to all.

TH5 did flag a couple of files on my PC that previous versions did not.  Fortunately I had not run them, so life is good.

Again, thx.

U R very welcome.

Glad things are working for you again.   Smiley

ALSO, Magnus will be releasing a new update in early January that will require a complete re-install.  He is making changes to LiveUpdate itself which is the reason for the complete re-install (LiveUpdate cannot update itself).  After that, LiveUpdate should be fully functional to update program changes as well as rulesets.

So please check back during January 2008 to get this new update.
