Need help with scheduled scan
« on: Nov 25th, 2007, 3:57pm »

Can someone quickly walk me through setting up Trojanhunter Scheduled Scan from the Windows Task Scheduler?

Yes I am aware TH5.0 has scheduling built in, but for troubleshooting purposes, I need to set it up the old fashioned way like in the TH4 days.

The instructions used to be in the FAQ, but it seems those instructions were overwritten by the Mods when TH5.0 came out.

So if anyone can help me with the old way of setting it up - especially the argument string, that would be great?!

Simply set up a scheduled scan from within TrojanHunter Scanner. This will add a Scheduled Task as TrojanHunter uses the Windows Task Scheduler to schedule scans.

Magnus,

Thanks as always!

The reason why I don't want to do it the new way is that the file thlc.exe, because of it's scanning behavior, its setting off some pretty nasty false positives from ESET NOD32 v3.

Manual scans from trojanhunter.exe keep NOD32 happy.  So I wanted to go back and try to set up a scheduled scan where trojanhunter.exe is used and not thlc.exe.

For full details and a report on this problem see here:

So, that's why I was looking for the old instructions here.

Well so much for the theory thlc.exe is the culprit but manual scans with trojanhunter.exe are ok.

I was actually able to get my hands on that file vzw.exe which thlc.exe created.  (NOD32 had quarantied it before TH or NOD32 deleted it.)

I took the file, renamed it, zipped it and saved it.  Now if I go and try to run a manual TH scan on that saved, remaned, zipped file - NOD32 pops up the same virus warning.  Yep running trojanhunter.exe against the file sends up a NOD32 warning too.

After doing a forum search and google search I see this is actually not a new problem.  But from those searches it seems rare for a customer to actually retain the file for analysis.

Since I have just such a file, and since I have absolute faith in TH and Magnus, I would sure feel better if one of you TH tech folks could take a close look at this file.  If truly malware, maybe you guys can be first at a new find.  If not maybe this file I was lucky enough to keep might be useful to you experts in finding a fix to this pesky bug.

Please let me know if this file would be helpful to you and what address I should email it to.

I appreciate all your help.

One  other thing.  Based on previous threads I should mention that MS Office is not even installed on this computer.  No idea what file was being scanned by TH when vzw.exe was created.

Welcome to the forum KFBeaker,  Wink

Please submit vzw.exe to Mischel Internet Security for analysis.  The link below describes how to submit a file.

This FP by NOD has actually been worked around in the main scanner, but not in thcl.exe, which is why you're seeing it during scheduled scans. I will make available an updated thcl.exe shortly after I recompile and test it.
