TrojanHunter V5.0 Issues/Bugs
« on: Sep 9th, 2007, 10:54am »
Quote Quote  Modify Modify

These Bugs are on a Vista OS.

Minor Bug 1

The scan report of THCL shows finding six trojans, yet at the end of the report it shows "No Trojans Files Found"

Quote:
TrojanHunter Scan Report
Saved 2007-09-09 at 05:59

Scanning drives C:\ D:\ E:\ F:\
Found trojan file: C:\Users\Administrator\Downloads\TrojanSimulator.zip/TrojanSimulator.exe  (TrojanSimulator.100)
Found trojan file: C:\Users\Administrator\Downloads\TrojanSimulator.zip/TSServ.exe/Upxqlgvw vty (TrojanSimulator.100)
Found trojan file: C:\Users\Administrator\Downloads\TrojanSimulator.zip/TSServ.exe (TrojanSimulator.100)
Found trojan file: E:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Downloads\TrojanSimulator.zip/TrojanSimulator.exe  (TrojanSimulator.100)
Found trojan file: E:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Downloads\TrojanSimulator.zip/TSServ.exe/Upxoprhx nnx (TrojanSimulator.100)
Found trojan file: E:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Downloads\TrojanSimulator.zip/TSServ.exe (TrojanSimulator.100)
No trojan files found

Minor Bug 2

In TH scanner>Options, the Disable/Enable Right Click Scanning button does not work.  Right click scanning is always Active.  (I never turn it off, but someone might want to.  Wink )

Bug 3

The Uninstaller does not remove scheduled LiveUpdate and Scan from the Task Scheduler.

Issue 1

I personally feel that the Uninstaller should remove all files and folders associated with TH and clean up the registry. Or an Uninstaller Tool should be provided that cleans up all this if the user desires to run it.  Probably would take a different tool for each Windows OS.

Issue 2

Any "malicious" registry key that is removed by TH scanner or THGuard should be Quarantined so that it can be restored if necessary.

Issue 3

A scan report tool is needed to allow users to select, view, and delete (individually or All) Scan Reports.  I feel that this should be a right click menu option of THGuard as well.

Issue 4

LiveUpdate should be available during the 30-day period on the Trial version of TH.

Confirmed that right-click scanning can't be disabled, not even by unchecking the corresponding entry in Autoruns. This is a nuisance, as I wish to disable it. Please fix as soon as possible. For the time being I've worked around it by renaming contmenu.dll. Running Vista Home Basic.

Hi Brian,

We have identified the issue and will be releasing a fix soon. This will be done via LiveUpdate - I'll post a notice here once it's available.

Excellent - many thanks. The idea of making fixes available via LiveUpdate is also just what the doctor ordered.

also note that the same "trojan" files are being flagged multiple times.. i noticed the same thing when doing a regular scan with TH, however maybe it is "normal" for the same files to be being flagged multiple times..maybe there is a good reason for its happening..

here is what the scan report shows:

Found trojan file: C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\My Documents\My Downloads\TrojanSimulator\TSServ.exe/Upxyqrocdwt (TrojanSimulator.100)
Found trojan file: C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\My Documents\My Downloads\TrojanSimulator\TSServ.exe (TrojanSimulator.100)
Found trojan file: C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\My Documents\My Downloads\TrojanSimulator\TSServ.exe/Upxbmjjmway (TrojanSimulator.100)
Found trojan file: C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\My Documents\My Downloads\TrojanSimulator\TSServ.exe (TrojanSimulator.100)
Found trojan file: C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\My Documents\My Downloads\TrojanSimulator\TrojanSimulator.exe (TrojanSimulator.100)
Found trojan file: C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\My Documents\My Downloads\TrojanSimulator\TSServ.exe/Upxmkxxlkgo (TrojanSimulator.100)
Found trojan file: C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\My Documents\My Downloads\TrojanSimulator\TSServ.exe (TrojanSimulator.100)
Found trojan file: C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\My Documents\My Downloads\TrojanSimulator.zip/TrojanSimulator.exe (TrojanSimulator.100)
Found trojan file: C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\My Documents\My Downloads\TrojanSimulator.zip/TSServ.exe/Upxpsmjzchv (TrojanSimulator.100)
Found trojan file: C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\My Documents\My Downloads\TrojanSimulator.zip/TSServ.exe (TrojanSimulator.100)

update: i guess it depends on your scan-options, which boxes you have checked, for scanning.. if i have only "c" checked, then the results in the scan report are not the same..

here is what the scan report shows when only "c" is checked:

Found trojan file: C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\My Documents\My Utilities\TrojanSimulator\TrojanSimulator.exe (TrojanSimulator.100)
Found trojan file: C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\My Documents\My Utilities\TrojanSimulator\TSServ.exe/Upxzoyxdkgs (TrojanSimulator.100)
Found trojan file: C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\My Documents\My Utilities\TrojanSimulator\TSServ.exe (TrojanSimulator.100)

there are two other boxes that also could be checked for scanning my personal "documents" folder and that allows for the files in the folder to be scanned a total of three times..

when running the cleaning, the "scan report" said that it could not quarantine "tserv.exe" until a reboot even though "tserv.exe" was not running in memory.. however, the file might have been quarantined anyway, before rebooting.. i think that it was..

When setting up Scheduled Scanning:
I select a Scan Interval of "daily" and exit the program. Starting up the program again reveals that the Scan Interval has reset itself to "Every 5 Days". It appears that regardless of the selection, the Scan Interval resets to "Every 5 Days".

OS is Win XP Pro

I can confirm this. The scheduled task is actually set up correctly, though. The only problem is that the scanner interface isn't correctly displaying the schedule interval.

A new scanner version is now available via LiveUpdate that should fix the issues mentioned here. The deleting of scheduled tasks via the uninstaller will be fixed with the next full product release.

Magnus - many thanks for the update, but I'm afraid it hasn't resolved the right-click-scanning issue, at least not here (I'm assuming it was supposed to do so).

i assume that there are "upx-packed files that could not be scanned" which are still not being logged when doing a scan..

i have the option for "warn on runtime-packed files that cannot be unpacked" enabled, supposedly, in TH 5's options..
