MD5 checksums of rule-files question

Hi Gavin and Magnus,

I have a general question about checksums of the rule files of TH.
(it doesn't matter if it is MD5 or any other HASH).

I remember that Gavin told me once that it doesn't make much sense to post checksums of the rule files like:
Cumulative20060322.trf
G20060322_0800.trf
M20060322_0800.trf
etc., etc.

because they can be compiled again with a completely fresh download etc.

My question is however about the file Gen.dll
The default full path:
C:\Program Files\TrojanHunter 4.7\RuleFiles\Gen.dll

Does it make sense to post its checksum, or goes the same for gen.dll as for the other rule-files?

My question is related to my posting of its MD5 checksum in this thread:
http://www.misec.net/forum/board/RulesetUpdates/1188012451

I hope that I expressed myself a little bit clear so you can understand what I mean...

Thanks in advance !

Jan.

The Gen.dll file changes pretty frequently so if someone did a checksum verification that failed it would simply be because we'd updated the file on the server. I'm not sure if this answers your question - if not, please clarify further. Thanks.

Hi Magnus,

Thanks for your reply.

I didn't ask the right question.

What I in fact wanted to ask, was whether two people with the same definitions update will have the same MD5 checksum of gen.dll.
I expected that that would be the case.
In the meanwhile Roddy did let me know in private that he had the same MD5 checksum of gen.dll as I posted in that update-thread.
So that told me that I was right and it gave me the answer I was looking for.

Best regards,
Jan.
