problem with subspace/continuum game

Hello all,
I recently purchased TH 4.7. I believe it was 4-5 days ago. Installation and downloading the signature updates went great. I play this game called Continuum formerly Subspace and since I installed TH I have been unable to launch the game. I have no idea why. My computer is 100% clean prior to installation and still is clean. It was made by a small company so I’m thinking some of the dlls and files might be flagged as malware and what not.

I will attempt to uninstall TH right now and see if it works. If TH is the problem, will I be able to return the software? Deep down I don’t want it to be TH, since I like the software.

Here is some information about my computer,

Dell xps m1710 laptop (2.33 ghz and 2gigs of ram)

Win xp pro sp2 and patched up to date
Symantec antivirus corp version 10
Latest version of webroot’s Spysweeper
Zonelabs zonealarm version 7(running only the firewall and antispyware portions. Antivirus piece is disabled)

I want to think its zonealarm or something else, but before I installed TH everything was working great. I’m not sure how far your support will go in terms of helping me out, but if there are any incompatibilities with the software I currently have installed, please let me know.

If you want, goto http://www.subspacedownloads.com/ and download “Quick Downloads: Continuum v0.39PR1 (Client)” which is the setup file for the game. The game is FREE, small and seriously is a very simple game. Much like online asteroids. Feel free to install it and test it out. Very fun game in any case.

Thank you all,

Welcome to the forum useport80  Cheesy

If you unload/close THGuard, does the game open and run?

hey sorry i've been inactive regarding this post. i finally got a chance to rebuild my laptop with vista ultimate 32-bit and everything works fine until i install trojanhunter. after i install trojanhunter, when i attempt to launch the game, nothingn appears on the screen, but when i check task manager i see continuum.exe and another instance of continuum.exe that reappears and disappears. it looks like its trying to do something.

when i disable trojanhunter the games behave in the same manner as above. i have to completely uninstall trojanhunter. i initially thought it was bitdefender internet security 2008 or my zonealarm suite so i've removed those as well.

i installed bitdefender and the game still works, once i toss on trojanhunter it doesn't Sad

could it be the TH guard settings? i can't remember what the trojanhunter guard settings look like since i dont have it installed, but i remember it had a few check boxes to protect about certain things.

i'll see if i can find a screenshot or something.

First, please update from TH V4.7 to TH V5.0.962.

1.  Download the latest version of TH from the link at the top of the forum "Download TrojanHunter Now".  Save it to your desktop.

2.  Save off your License.tlf file from the C:\Program Files\TrojanHunter 4.7 folder.  This is your license file that you will need for TH 5.0

3.  Uninstall TH V4.7 and reboot your computer.

4.  Remove all folders that are named TrojanHunter from your C drive.

5.  Install TH V5.0 and copy your License.tlf in folder C:\Program Files\TrojanHunter 5.0

6.  Open TH scanner GUI and run LiveUpdate.  LiveUpdate will download/install the very latest TrojanHunter.exe, THGuard.exe, the latest rulesets, and a couple of other files.

Now does the game run okay?

Also, are you sure these games are Vista compatible?

this is a new vista installation, so i didn't need to upgrade. i've already downloaded and installed TH 5.9 build 962.

the game is vista compatible.

the game still doesn't run when trojanhunter is installed Sad if i uninstall the trojanhunter, it works. i've tried unloading trojanhunter as well.

here is some history:
initially i was on winxp with zonealarm firewall, and trojanhunter 4.7. then i upgraded to trojanhunter 5.0. ever since TH 4.7 the game would not launch. so i figured i should try vista. so i bought a new hard drive and installed vista as a brand spanking new install and the game works. after i install trojanhunter it doesnt work. how that i know its not winxp or vista, i'll just dump vista and continue to use my winxp hard drive.

not sure what to do now. the game is all THAT important, but its nice to have thats all. thats why i haven't pushed the issue of getting it resolved, i've been busy getting married hehe but now that its all over i can focus on computer stuff.

can any1 try and install the game and see if it works. i dont think its only me. http://www.getcontinuum.com/ just download, install, create an account and try launching it. its a free and fun game Smiley

im assuming i can't return trojanhunter right?

Congrats to you and your new bride.  Cheesy

Please e-mail Magnus directly at support@misec.net and include a link to your forum post.  He's the developer of TH and can/will provide the investigative effort to see what is causing the conflict.

Whereas you have turned off THGuard, my guess is that it has something to do with right-click scanning's module Contmenu.dll in TH.  It hooks into Windows Explorer and may be the cause.  Unfortunately, right click scanning cannot be turned off because of bug in the latest V5.0.  I think Magnus has this fixed but has not yet released the new version.

As for returning TH, that's a decision that only Magnus can rule on.

I read through several of the user posts at the SSforum and it looks like there are a lot of conflicts with various security programs and this game.

great ty for all your help. i've emailed magnus. i can't think of anything else to do. i'll keep TH installed and not play the game.

its not a very popular game and its free so who knows where the code is coming from.

i'd be ok if i could play the game after unloading TH guard. i'd be happy with that. i'd hate to return the product since i like it and i generally like the smaller software companies.

U R most welcome.   Cheesy

Hopefully Magnus can eliminate the conflict for you.  Please post back as to the results of investigation.  I'd be interested in hearing the outcome for future reference here on the forum.

Sorry about the "no response".  I just emailed Magnus asking him if he can respond here.  Perhaps the email was inadvertently overlooked.   Sad

Am seeing a problem here, even though TrojanHunter has been uninstalled.

Continuum.exe for some reason keeps relaunching itself, the PID is constantly changing in Task Manager if you see the same behaviour. The vendor may be able to provide a fix Smiley

i see that behavior as well but only when TH is installed. once i uninstall TH(not unload) the problem goes away. i had this issue on xp and vista ultimate 32-bit(brand new install).

the pid changes over and over.

the game is no longer in production so i dont think any1 is tweaking the software
