ZoneAlarm Pro and TrojanHunter Conflict???

Hi,
I'm running TH 3.7, ZAP(4.5.530.000) and KAV on XP Home.

After updating to the latest ruleset the TrueVector service of ZAP stops and I'm forced to reboot. This takes a while because TH Guard will not shut down, a message appears saying that windows is trying to stop TH Guard and I click end-now but TH Guard does not end.I have to do this a few times.
If I right-click TH Guard in the task bar to unload it, nothing happens at all.
After rebooting everything works OK.

I've had this problem of updating TH and ZAP stopping for a few days now, so I rebuilt my ZAP database because I thought that they may be corrupt but it hasn't helped.

Perhaps there may be a conflict with TH Guard and ZAP or it may have nothing at all to do with TH but a problem just with ZAP.

Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks

This is interesting. I got an email from someone else about this problem after updating today and thought that TrojanHunter couldn't have anything to do with it. However, if you're also having the same problem then it sounds like TH could be involved somehow.

Does anyone know if ZAP has to be bought or if there's a trial version of it available somewhere?

Is there any information on the ZAP error in the Windows Event Log (Control Panel->Admin Tools->Event Viewer)? It so, it would be great if you could post the text of the log message here.

Magnus, I have 3 error messages from the event viewer

1) TrueVector engine: File "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\IAMDB.RDB" was corrupt and has been copied to "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\xDB75.tmp"
File "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\IAMDB.RDB" was corrupt and has been deleted

2) TrueVector engine: File "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\IAMDB.RDB" was corrupt, restoring from backup "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\BACKUP.RDB"

3) TrueVector engine: File "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\HOME-HQE1C8GVUJ.ldb" was corrupt and has been copied to "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\xDB76.tmp"
File "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\HOME-HQE1C8GVUJ.ldb" was corrupt and has been deleted

Hope these are what you want.

BTW you can get a trial version of ZAP from www.zonelabs.com(how do you add a link??).

Ok, I have a ZAP Pro 4.5.530 trial installed here now, but I can't reproduce this.

Does the crash happen while the update file is being downloaded or  does ZAP crash during or after the installation of the rule files? How long have you had this version of ZAP installed? Is LiveUpdate the only program that causes this to happen?

Magnus,
ZAP does not crash when I'm downloading the update or when the rules have been installed but soon after.
Today, for example, after the update had been installed I clicked IE to bring up my home page and ZAP shut down and I had to reboot, wherein the problem with TH Guard starts because it won't shut down.
I've had this version of ZAP since it came out(about 2 weeks ago).
ZAP shutting down only occurs after I have updated TH for some reason.

I'm running ZAP 4.5.530 too, on this XP Home box, and I can't reproduce this.  Also, are you positive you need to reboot?  The times that TrueVector has crashed in XP, it has offered to me to restart the TrueVector service, and I have been able to restart without rebooting. Wink

Randy,
I have restarted the TrueVector service without rebooting so that isn't the problem.
If, though, after restarting the TrueVector service I have to restart my computer for whatever reason the problem with TH guard not ending begins.
I'm wondering if the TrueVector crashing has some sort of effect on TH Guard.

Just to let you know that todays update worked OK and I guess that it was just coincidence that ZAP crashed just after updating TH yesterday- but you never know!! Grin

I think Magnus, that this is an intermittent problem that occurs when the interminable TrueVector and interminable TrojanGuard collide over usage. I think there needs to be some sort of timing hold on one which allows the other to proceed. However, this is indeed infrequent and hard to reproduce.

Jamming,

Please note that the other guy with the problem doesn't run TH Guard.  Last I heard, he hasn't had any problems with today's update.

That's fine, but I have an intermittant problem that seems to overwork my poor old P3/866 Chip causing an error, it seems to happen when THGuard is polling and using resources that something else in my system wants to use. It happens very rarely but I am wondering if I need to get a new machine every once and awhile.

What I am saying also is this would not necesarily be reproducible under normal circumstances, it seems to occur every four or five days when I am doing things and then Guard wants to look, if I disable Guard it doesn't occur.  I was hesitant about bring it up as I thought it was just me.

So there may be something in this after all. Smiley

What illukka described is what happened to me, but this morning ZAP crashed just after starting up and TH Guard would not respond and eventually I got it to shut down after a few minutes, rebooted and all is well again.
