The 'run=hpfsched' in your win.ini file is really a 'nag' from HP to remind you to register your product, I'm guessing you have an HP printer. It serves no other purpose and you could safely delete that from win.ini, not the run= but just hpfsched. The line in win.ini would just look like this: run=
this is assuming you have no other programs loading from there. If you do, leave them there. I can't offer any help with your other questions. Look through some of the other posts here, I recall someone else having a problem with shutdown protection box not remaining checked.

Should be of no danger. You can read about it here:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x31bb6af52b04d5118fef009 0279cd0f9,00.html

<snip>
HPFSCHED is a small TSR that will remind you to clean the cartridges in your DeskJet from time to time in order to keep print quality high.

It can be removed from the run line in win.ini if you do not want that feature.

A Google search:
http://www.google.com/search?q=hpfsched&sourceid=opera&num=0& ;ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
has more on the subject.

Click the Unload tab, then click yes, then restart the Guard.  This was recommended by Vampirefo, in a thread at DSLReports.  The Guard should, I think, keep your settings after the second reboot.
