LiveUpdates Problems II

    Magnus ,

Today I have tried again the liveupdate and surprising it did work ( 25-2002-02-19 / 2029 rules ) , and you know that yesterday we have tried hard to solve the issue .
I do not know about coding or software design  , but it seems to me that my liveupdate's problem may be connected with the server ---it is  inttermitent and not permanent , isn't it .
Of course we will  have to wait  for the next update to confirm this intermittency or not. What do you think ?

One possible explanation I can think of is that your ISP has a proxy server that stores copies of web pages and files. If this is the case then it could be that an old version of thupdate.txt was cached until today. If it then expired from the cache today, LiveUpdate would get the new version and the update would be successful. This is one explanation, but I seem to recall that you said your ISP didn't use a proxy server.

In any case, if this does happen again, the log file from LiveUpdate really would help to diagnose your problem. I haven't had more than one or two other reports about LiveUpdate problems the last weeks so it seems that for the majority of users LiveUpdate works fine. I would of course like to get this solved anyway.

By the way, there is a page up about manually updating your ruleset which may be of interest:

I think that the "ISP/Proxy" side of the question should be discarded --- I liveupdate several other programs frequently without problems as I have said before.
We'll  have to wait for the next TH update .If the problem returns  I'll  try one more time to generate a update log.file .
Liveupdating is much more practical and confortable then , two times a week , start the manual update process--- a procedure , regarding security softwares ,that is only acceptable if the user  opt to  it for any particular reason .

Sometime Mozar, I have trouble getting into a german site for updating intermittantly.  It might be easier for Magnus to correct your intermittant problem if he had a mirror site for his liveupdates. It would be understandable if he doesn't want to do that, because if it is on some other site he loses some control.  I might suggest that if you could Magnus, talk to Davidov at Wilders.org to see if it might be possible there since they all ready provide notification on your product's updates.
