New LiveUpdate Available

A new version of the LiveUpdate utility is available here:

  http://www.mischel.dhs.org/products/LiveUpdate252.zip

Simply extract the LiveUpdate.exe file in the archive to the TrojanHunter\Tools\LiveUpdate\ directory. It may be a good idea to make a backup of your old LiveUpdate.exe in case you encounter any problems.

I would like to hear if this version fixes the problems with updating that some people have reported.

This error ususally indicates that LiveUpdate is unable to get information about the latest update from the update server. This can happen because the server is down or temporarily unavailable. You can test this by trying to download the latest update manually. If that doesn't work either then it's a server problem; otherwise it's something related specifically to LiveUpdate.

Are you getting this error with the new LiveUpdate.exe?

The problem is intermittent with both the old and new version of the updater.

I just noticed the file size for the latest updater and the one included in the V2.52 upgrade on 1/20/02 are the same, 221,184. Are we getting the latest version or the previous one. Could that explain the lingering problem?

The file size of the new LiveUpdate.exe should be 213,504 bytes. Are you sure you're not looking at "Size on disk"?

Yes, your stated size is correct. I looked at the wrong part of the properties display. However, the recent file and the one downloaded on 1/20/02 are the same.

That is actually kind of interesting - the file sizes are indeed exactly the same. However, if you run fc.exe with the old and new LiveUpdate.exe you'll see that there are lots of bytes that differ.
