What's in a name?

Some questions that have bothered me...maybe someone can answer.  TrojanHunter has literally thousands of Trojan definitions:  Who names them?  The person who originally wrote the script?  Or, the person who first discovered it 'in the wild.'  Magnus or Gavin?

And will other people recognize that name and know exactly what it is?  For example, today's ruleset update includes "TrojanSpy.Bancos.303."  Will other antitrojan and antivirus vendors say, "Well the boys at Mischel have got TrojanSpy.Bancos.303 covered.  Why didn't we get that one first?"

These may seem like strange, even banal, questions, but how else does one get to the bottom of things?  Huh
