Hepatitis & Me

Do you sometimes wonder why some posters seem to come--and then go. Then return, again?

One reason, among others, is health--as some others in Ten Forward have already noted.

So that my fellow TH posters & internet friends (even those I may have "butted heads with," previously) can be informed, I offer the following.

FYI,

Hepatitis C (chronic):
Sometimes referred to as Hepatitis C, or HepC. The actual virus is tyically labeled as HCV (it seems I have seen other desgnations--it can get confusing, believe me!)

In December, a week before last Christmas, I finally completed 48 weeks of intense, brutal & gruelling, medical therapy (1 injection of PegInterferon per week, plus lots of Rebetol ("ribavarin," in some countries) capsules each day.

Hepatitis C (chronic) is a disease--some refer to it merely as a virus--that affects the liver.

Untreated, many will definitely develop either liver cancer, or cirrohsis (sp?) of the liver. Especially so, if one enjoys drinking alcohol, even in moderation.

My doctor at the University in Nebraska (prior to moving to Japan) discovered I had HepC--in 2002.

Apparently (so he guessed) it was the result of blood transfusions I received after a bad car accident in 1992. So, in 2002 (when it was confirmed I had HepC, I already had it my system for at least 10 years, or longer, possibly).

Now, with all the blood tests and other evidence in, it looks like I have completely eliminated the HepC virus from my liver and body. Too soon to say conclusively--yet; it is sort of like a "cancer in remission" type of situation.

But so far so good; I already do feel better.

I have been enjoying a much higher level of energy & mental alertness, etc. than in the previous weeks and months.

Too, I hope to begin posting here at the TH Forum--again--more often, and regularly.

Hi Claire,

Thanks (Dank U).

What a coincidence, I think, to see your post just now. Since I can again partake of alcoholic beverages (not allowed previously), I have begun to familiarize myself with some of the local outlets that sell imported beers.

Just today, earlier, I was in a store with a nice selection & guess what, the  best selection was the Belgian beers--including one of my favorites--Hoe gaarden (sp?), along with 6 - 10 of different types of Trappist beers.

Hope all is well with you and your loved ones--its always nice to see your posts!  Smiley

Dang--I hate it when I do stuff like that  Embarassed
I don't why I never figured the mother language thing  Grin Maybe it's best if I just stick to English, as that's the one I know best--and I still struggle with that one too, sometimes.

Appreciate the info on the new brewski--and yes, I am familiar the potency of a number of the Belgian brews . . . .  Wink

Likewise--I am most happy to see your post phoenix. I sincerely hope all is well in your part of the world.

And , , , well for a long time, I, too, didn't know I was ill--at least not ill in a physical sense (just joking--sort of  Wink).
