Hardware engineer needed
« on: Mar 2nd, 2003, 12:47am »
Quote Quote  Modify Modify

I am posting this here, as I have confidence in both the depth and breadth of knowledge/contacts of the members (and guests!) who frequent this forum.

Any leads, ideas or suggestions are solicited. Good jokes, too, are always welcome!  Grin

In a nutshell: my partner (Stanford University, California) and I, are in the initial stages of a new high-tech start-up firm. We (as a team) are on the way to a working prototype of a hardware (language-learning) device. We need to find a hardware engineer, one with experience, who can help us. A free-lancer (if there is such a person) or someone who just wants to do something interesting and unique on a one-time basis is needed. The person will need to sign an non-disclosure type agreement, etc.

Any suggestions where to look? Or where to post an ad?

Terms, other specifics and related matters (transportation, for example), are negotiable. Maybe we can GO to that person, and bring along schematics, if needed.

How long it will take to do what is necessary, at this point I do not know--out of my area of expertise. My buddy (partner) can and will provide the necessary specifics when necessary. At this point I  am mostly assisting in scouting-type activities; looking for that top notch hardware engineer, and have no real clue where to look.

All help appreciated.
Thanks, in advance.
Walter

mark: I do enjoy the "what if" approach to (certain) matters.

So, thinking in strictly theoretical terms, (of course!)... Wink

...several points might be made, in response to your rhetorical question:

1. As noted in my first post to this thread, "terms" and other "related matters" are negotiable. That is, these quotes we use CAN be modified, deleted, or replaced yes? Grin

2. Hey, even Republicans have a sense of humor!!  Cool For example, was that NOT President George Bush (Candidate Bush, at the time) I once saw on the David Letterman show? Who knows, maybe he is a (closet) "Prarie Home Companion" fan himself?    Smiley

3. Finally, at least we can be thankful that the person with the Garrison Keillor quote attached, undoubtedly is NOT a DEMOCRAT!! (I strongly suspect the guy is probably a stubborn, hard-core independent). I am guessing he is as hard on Dems, or harder on em, than he is on the Repubs!! (just guessing of course, don't quote me on this particular matter!).  Grin

1. Garrison Keillor quote? Really, where...I don't see any do you? I wonder where mark lifted that quote from...can't seem to find it anywhere!!!  Grin

2. The new quote is the best I could on short notice. Hope no one will find THAT one particularly offensive (atheists excepted, of course!)  Wink

How about a Bob Dylan quote?  Grin

OK...then how about one of real favorites (modified, but only slightly, to fit the circumstances), from Abraham Lincoln:

"You can please some of the people all of the time. And you can please all of the people some of the time. But, you can't please all the people, all of the time."

Gladiator,

I appreciate the question. Am now working on an answer. I apologize that I can't give a more immediate (informed) reply.

Will post back here when I have the information. You might receive a communication--something more directly, in the meantime.

You realize Lincoln was a Republican and Grey-Out Davis is a Democrat. So at Stanford you can thank a Republican for your quote and berate a Democrat when your power goes off. Wink

"...the choice of platform will be based on several different factors," quoting the one overseeing this aspect (not me).

Apparently, the hardware engineer will be free to suggest, or advise, which platform will be best--depending on functions? cost factors? software requirements (limitations)?: those types of issues of which I know little, in a technical sense.

For anyone who wants to know more details, I do have an email address.

The address, along with other info., has been forwarded to Gladiator in a separate, non-forum, message.

Jamming,

Invariably, I enjoy reading your comments (along with 3-5 other forum member's posts). The post quoted above is no exception to this pattern. Several comments:

1. RE: the political affiliations of the two men you refer to--yes, I did realize that.

2. I apologize for my (unintended) lack of  clarity. That is my partner is the one who is at Stanford, not me. I currently reside in the Great Plains (among other moving things, there really are a few buffalo still running about, fenced in of course). Currently, I am at the University of Nebraska.

3. No problems with lack of electricity here--as far as I know!  Cool

However, despite #3, IF and WHEN the electricity were to start sputtering, I might take your suggestion and...how did you say it..."thank a republican" (for the quote) and "berate a Democrat" when my power goes off.  Grin Or, wait! in this state might it be the other way?
