TH Guard Autostart; how to disable

Hello,
i'm new here.
First, sorry if this has already covered here.  Didn't find it yet by searching.
My question is: how can i disable TH Guard autostart at system startup?  Unchecking in TH Guard Options "Load on startup" does not help.

The checkbox keeps on re-checking itself.

Is my only choice to manually remove the autostart entry from Windows Registry?

System: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.
Trojan Hunter Version: 5.0.962

I appreciate any help.

Welcome to the forum lfo2340  Cheesy

When you open the Settings window of THGuard and uncheck the "Load on Startup", click on OK to save the new setting.  Then you can unload THGuard.

Or do you have some other security program that is blocking changes to the startup registry....such as AdAware's Ad-Watch?

Thanks siliconman01 for your reply.
I had saved the settings by clicking Ok, but the checkbox keeps unchecked only until next restart.
After reboot, TH Guard's autostart is enabled again. Huh

This is my only problem with TH and TH Guard.  Other than this, it works like a charm.  And this is not a big problem, i can keep it enabled anyway.  Just curious, is it just me alone or anyone else is facing this (?)

No, i have no such programs that disable changes in registry. (afaik.)  My only security programs besides TH is KIS (kaspersky internet security) and Grisoft AVG Anti-Spyware free version with no resident protection.

Hmmm...

KIS does have a registry protection module.  It's in Proactive Defense.

Also, check if you happen to have 2 THGuard.exe entries in your startup registries

-  START>RUN and type in   msconfig

-  Click on the Startup tab and scroll through the list of startup programs.

Hi,
checked KIS settings, Registry Guard was not on (under Proactive Defence)

In startup registry, didn't find double entry for TH Guard.
but what i found, was a single entry under
hklm\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run
even though i had unchecked 'Load on startup' in TH settings....

If the unchecking of that checkbox should remove this autostart entry, in my machine it does not.   Sad

Strange...

The above registry entry should go away when the "Load on Startup" in THGuard is unchecked.  Manually remove that registry entry for THGuard.exe and see if it solves the issue.

I'm running Vista Business and THGuard does seem to work okay with this option on or off.

Are you running Ad-Watch from Lavasoft? That can cause the registry entry to be re-written since it "protects" startup entries. If so you need to disable Ad-Watch before unchecking the box in TrojanHunter Guard.

Thanks to both of you for replies.
I checked and i do have Ad-Aware installed, didn't remember to mention it in my post above about my security programs, but i have used it only long time ago a couple of times (just scanned everything through), and never activated Ad-Watch component.

To make sure, i just checked and it does not run on my machine no as a program nor as a process.

A process that is related with AVG Anti-Spyware called "guard" is running and active.  But i think it has no such capabilities, to disable a startup registry entry.

Will try to remove the TH Guard startup  registry entry and see what happens - thanks again for your help
