Where the hell is "Post a reply" option

This is the most un-userfriendly forum I ever visited!
I have just wasted 30mins. trying to post a reply to the Topic, which I now cannot find, concerning compatibilty with Vista.

Is it compatible or not, please.

Welcome to the forum mgbinnewhaw  Cheesy

Sorry that you are having difficulty navigating the forum.

TrojanHunter V4.6.930 is currently not compatible with Vista.

In the FAQ section of the forum at the link below, it states that testing with Vista is not completed.  Magnus is working on a new release.

Thank you for such a speedy reply and sorry about the latent anger in my initial message.

As is evident I can easily reply now thanks to a radio button on the topic/reply page- but,
without a reply to respond to, the ommision of a Post-a-reply button which would direct a
non-subscriber to the login/subscribe page is still a requirement, I think.

Really do appreciate your feedback concerning the forum requirements.  If my memory serves me correctly, Magnus (the owner of TrojanHunter) did permit guests to post in the older forum a few years back.  However, there were difficulties with spammers, etc., who made posts that were not desireable or TrojanHunter related.  With registration required, it is possible to block malicious IPs from the posting on the forum if necessary.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but...  Wink

I hate to go on but my frustration arose from the fact that I could not sign-in as a new user - even though I did everything exactly as requested (I trust!) Smiley more than five or six times.

I don't mind in the least that I have to sign-in before posting, but thank you anyway for taking the time to offer an explanation - which is eminently understandable.

However, I still think that something that told a non-subscriber "you have to sign-in before posting a reply or creating a topic" would be most helpful to newcomers (sorry, Magnus or whoever would have to code such a thing).

In the meantime, I await a Vista compatible version with eagerness.

Regards,

mgb

Hi Siliconman> Could this be why TH 'apparantly' identified a trojan in the Vista Start Menu start up File?
All other scans came up with nothing.

Yes, it could very well be a Vista incompatibility problem.  What file did it show as Trojan on your Vista Start Menu?

Thanks Siliconman for the "fast" reply.
Here is the scan report:

Registry scan
No suspicious entries found
Inifile scan
No suspicious entries found
Port scan
No suspicious open ports found
Memory scan
Found trojan module VistaStartMenu.dll loaded into process explorer.exe (1680): PWSteal.Maran.143
Found trojan module VistaStartMenu.dll loaded into process WinPatrol.exe (2232): PWSteal.Maran.143
File scan (autostarted files, running executables)
2 trojan files found

Another program I use also showed a Trojan file last week but the developers updated the software to illiminate the false positive from there detection list.
I'm pretty sure it is originating from the 'hook' Vista Start Menu employsHuh?? I think......
What is your take. Cool

Hello Siliconman,

What have I started?!!! Grin

Just out of interest, I am running XP and Vista in dual-boot mode. Would it be of any interest to you if I install and run TrojanHunter (TJ to the conoscenti, I believe) under Vista?
As a result of TJ not being compatible I didn't bother installng it, but as wilpower has and found a problem, may it not be useful to see if the fault re-occurs on my installation?

TJ runs fine under XP - it found four trojans on its first run!

From what I saw when I had TH running under Vista Premium, I would not recommend installing it on Vista.  It will scan okay; however, there are other problems that could jump up and bite you.  I feel confident that Magnus is working on a new Vista compatible version to be released when it is ready.   Wink

Wilpower submitted the Vista file in question for analysis.  Gavin will analyze it and make any needed definitions modifications or additions.

Glad that TH on XP trapped and removed some critters for you.  It is good at doing that!  Gavin focuses on items that other security scanners are missing, so TH can/will substantially enhance your security portfolio.  Keep in mind that rulesets are issued daily...7 days per week.  So Gavin stays on top of new malicious elements.
