THGuard problems/conflicts?

I have a brand new Gateway box.  Specs are, Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 processor, 2084 ram, XP MCE 2002, nVIDIA GeForce 7600GS card....yada, yada, yada....

In addition, I removed the preloaded McAfee Inernet Security Suite and loaded KIS 6.0.  I'm also running Spybot S&D, Adaware SEPlus (have removed AdWatch due to the current problems) and SpywareBlaster.

So what are the problems?

About every second or third boot, I can see that ThGuard is disabled (there's a red "X" on the magnifying glass icon).  If that is the case, I cannot open any programs from the desktop.

I can't even pull up TaskManager.

I then unplug the power and reboot in order to make my box operational.

Any suggestions?

TIA!

Congratulations on obtaining a new box  Cheesy

Are you running Vista on the new Gateway?  If so, which version of Vista?  Is it 32 bit or 64 bit?  TH is not tested on Vista as of yet.  Magnus is suppose to be working on Vista compatibility from what I understand.

In THGuard>Settings, uncheck "Protect against unauthorized shutdowns" and then click on OK to save the setting change.
Then reboot.

It is possible that if the above setting is active that THGuard's code injection could be causing the problem you are experiencing.  It has caused problems for some users.

One other known conflict is between TH scanner and the nVidia Desktop Manager.  If the nDM is active when doing a TH scan, the scanner will/may hang up.  If you are running the nDM, just disable it temporarily when doing a TH scan.

I assume that you are running TrojanHunter V4.6.930.  If not, you should upgrade to the latest version.

I'm running xp mce and not vista.

I was already aware of the nVidia desktop manager problem and that's been taken care of.

I will give your suggestion a try.

Thanks!  Wink

Siliconman1, thanks.

For the past few days I've not had any problems with my new box.  Everything opens normally.  Plus, I no longer see KIS alerting me that THSec.dll is trying to insert into a bunch of stuff at startup.  Now I need to start re-enabling the things I shut down while trying to figure out this problem.

Vaya con Dios, mi amigo!
