Conflict IE7 and TH Guard

There seems to be a conflict between TH Guard setting "Protect against unauthorized shutdowns" and IE7 final. When this option is checked everything is fine until I run IE7. When I close IE7 the window closes okay but when I look in task manager I see that iexplorer.exe is still running. If I close task manager and then start it again I now have 2 instances of task manager running. From this point on nothing closes correctly. If I reboot then I get the window to shutdown/stop a couple of tasks that are not closing properly. The reboot then proceeds correctly. If, after the reboot, I uncheck the option "Protect against unauthorized shutdowns" everything works correctly. IE7 also ends correctly and nothing hangs on a reboot. If I again check this option the problem comes back.

Can anyone else confirm this behavior?

P.S. Forget to mention, this is on XP Home Edition SP2 fully patched.

I do not normally use this option in THG because I use ProcessGuard to protect all my programs.  However, I turned the THGuard option on and tried to reproduce your problem on my XP-SP2 HE system.  IE7 closes okay and is not left in memory.

I rebooted with the THG option selected and tried several times again to reproduce it.  IE7 closes okay and is not left in memory.

What other security programs do you have that are running realtime?  Perhaps it is a combination affect going on in your system with the new IE7.

Thanks for checking this out siliconman01. I am glad to hear you are not having this problem.

I also use NOD32, Regdefend, and Online Armor.

Since my workaround works for me, unchecking that option, I have not done any further investigations.

Also forget to mention in my first post that I am using TH 4.6 930.

I'm hopeful that a new mechanism for this THG feature is implemented in TH V5.0.  The current method does induce a random conflict on certain third party software combinations, particularly programs that have their own built in protection locks.  Sad

Glad the workaround works for you.
