TrojanHunter Guard strange behaviour!

Recently, when I shutdown my pc a window would pop up telling me "TrojanHunter guard stops responding".  If I manually end the task, window will continue with shutdown.  However if I leave the pop up window to time-out by itself after the bar reaches the end, the system will either stay in window with TH guard icon still in system tray but does not respond or sometimes hang in the "windows is shutting down..." screen.

I have been using TH for over a year now and this is the first time this has happen.  Please could someone advice on how to solve this problem.  The only new application I have installed recently is Ccleaner, which I have set to run during start up.

What operating system?  You can try renaming "THSec.dll" {in your TH folder} to "THSec.disabled", then reboot.   You will need to do this outside of normal Windows GUI since THSec.dll {the component of TH that locks in the Guard process} is active in memory while Windows is running.

Thanks for the advice.  The problem seems to be resolved now.  However, does renaming THSec.dll pose any security issue with the guard itself?

I am using Win XP Pro w/SP2.

Welcome to the forum, ping  Cheesy

Yes, renaming THSEC.DLL does pose a bit of a security risk for TrojanHunter.  This DLL is the watchdog logic that prevents TrojanHunter Guard from being maliciously terminated by some criminal hacker (or whatever one wishes to tag them as).

It is best to try to find out what has changed on your system recently that is causing THGuard from being stopped from termination during a system shutdown.  Have you added new software recently or upgraded something?
