Problem with THGuard

Hi there
I'm running THGuard on a new sony vaio with 2 GHz pentium M ,1 G ram, 100G SAT, xp pro sp2, pagefile set to 1.534G min and max, ZA firewall, Avast AV,Spybot+teatimer,TrojanHunter and ad-aware SE. All updated frequently
I get same problem as lesride here http://forum.misec.net/board/THGuard/1115300458
I can say it is definitely THGuard that is causing the trouble
It is causing some proccesses and apps that load after it to continually increase there memory usage, as though they had a memory leak, untill windows runs out of virtual memory

Affected on my system are startups:
explorer.exe
ashdisp.exe
taskmgr.exe
apoint.exe
teatimer.exe
wg111cfg.exe
winpatrol.exe
wlancfg4.exe
atiptaxx.exe

The problem can be partially solved by preventing THGuard from loading on start up and then starting it manually
However some progs still exhibit the same behaviour if run while THGuard is running. Firefox ,Internet explorer ,jetaudio,ad-awareSE updater and probably others. Again, this can be cured by unloading THGuard and then restarting it after running the app.
I wonder if it is mainly stuff that needs to access the internet that is affected?
A solution to this problem would be most welcome, although I feel it is a bug in the software
I am going to try reinstalling and see what happens but will wait for replies to this first as it may be helpful to have my sys. available to help
Regards

sputnik365, while we are waiting on Magnus to jump in, could you try this?  Try disabling most of your other security software -- Avast AV,Spybot+teatimer, and Ad-Aware SE {if that is resident and active} -- then see if the problem goes away.  I am wondering whether all those programs you have running at the same time might be causing some conflict that makes it only appear that the Guard is the sole cause of the problem -- you may be right that the Guard is the only culprit but while waiting for expert help it might be worth a try. Hi there
thank you for your quick replies.
I didn't think THGuard was solely responsible for this. I suspected a conflict with avast. I have not had any trouble before in over 1 yr use of your excellent program.

After reading your reply I disabled avast, rebooted and still same problem, so not a conflict with avast

I then disabled all startups with WinPatrol
rebooted
ran THGuard
everything fine
Then reenabled them all and everything still fine!!
This leads me to strongly believe that it is a software conflict on startup as the order in which things start will have been changed.

But what on earth could cause such massive memory leaks?

I think this is common, when one program is "fighting" another over something, it can cause CPU spikes and RAM leaks.  The problem then reduces to discovery of which two programs are in conflict, then trying to avoid that conflict.  Good Luck. Wink

Hi,

Please try the following:

1. Unload TrojanHunter Guard
2. Rename the file THSec.dll in the TrojanHunter folder to THSec.123
3. Start the Guard and see if the conflict is resolved

Hi Magnus
Thanks for your help
The problem seems to have resolved itself (see above) strange.
Should I rename the dll anyway or wait and see?

If the problem is resolved without renaming THSEC.DLL, I recommend you not rename it.  THSEC.DLL is TrojanHunter Guard's protector from malicious termination of THGuard.  Some user's have encountered a problem with it; however, the vast majority have not.   Cheesy

Ok, siliconman and magnus
Thanks for your help and I hope this was of some use to others.
Maybe a startup organiser would help to resolve the exact cause?
If I get time I will try it.
