THGuard, MSAS & NIS Compatability

Hello,

I am currently using THGuard Trial and I have a question whether it is right or not to use THGuard, Microsoft Antispyware(MSAS) and Norton Internet Security 2005 (NIS) all on guard in the system tray all running and on guard at the same time?
In the sense that do they conflict with each other when used together or it is normal as they are compatabile when used together?

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

Best Regards,

You should have absolutely no problems with your security combo.  I run NIS 2005, CounterSpy (very similiar to MSAS), TH V4.2 and several other security proggies together.

The only thing you might see is "who traps first".  For example, a piece of malware might get detected first by NAV and lock it out before TH detects it.  That's not a problem.  It's all part of the multi-layered defense you have established.   Wink

Thanks Siliconman for your reply.

That was really helpful.

In this regard however I'd like to ask you a question: you said that the only thing I might see is "who traps first" - is there a way where I can know which of the 3 running programs will have the right to "trap first"?

Thanks in advance for your help.

It's a more a matter of timing than a "right".  The probability is that if a specific trojan is in your NIS 2005 definitions as well as TH, then NIS will hit it first.  If adware or spyware is in NIS and also in MSAS and TH, I suspect that NIS will hit it first.  If adware or spyware is in TH and MSAS, then TH will probably hit it first.  If adware or spyware is in MSAS and NIS but not TH, then NIS will probably hit it first.

There is nothing absolute on this...again it's more a matter of timing.  Keep in mind that if NIS hits a trojan but then cannot remove it, you have to temporarily disable NAV so that a scan by TH will/can see the infection and do its work to delete it.

Generally speaking, NIS {containing your AntiVirus and Firewall} will "hook" into your system at a lower level than the others.  Thus it will "see" changes in your system {via files accessed, ports accessed, etc.} before your other security programs. Wink
