ahhhh... so the problem still exists. Okay, let's start fresh...totally fresh. This sounds like it could be a combination of a Windows known problem and new vs old versions of TrojanHunter on your computer. First there is a known and yet to be resolved problem with Windows (particularly Windows XP) and the icons that get loaded up in the lower right Systray or Notification bar area of the Task Bar. For some unknown reason (Microsoft does not have a solution either), on some computers and some configurations, icons will randomly not show up in the Systray or will disappear randomly. There have been many suggested fixes for these; however, none have proven to work 100% of the time on 100% of the various hardware/software configurations. The icon being absent does not mean that the program itself is absent or not running. The program will be running as it should in memory...just no icon showing that it is. I have this problem on my XP-SP2 and have solved it 98% of the time by staggering/phasing the timing the program startup when I reboot my computer. Coincidentally, THGuard seems to be one of those programs whose icon will not show up on reboot on my computer (rarely now, but it does occur). I suspect this is because of all the activity THGuard goes through when it loads up. SO, here's what I would like you to try: 1. Go to START-SETTINGS-TASKBAR AND START MENU a. Uncheck "Hide inactive icons" b. Uncheck "Autohide the Taskbar" c. Click on Apply and then OK. 2. Open Windows Explorer a. Do a Search for THSEC.DLL b. Everywhere you find THSEC.DLL, rename it to THSEC1.DLL c. Close Windows Explorer. 3. Reboot your computer. 4. Download a FRESH copy of TrojanHunter 4.2, Build 908 and save it to a folder where you can find it later for installation. 5. Save away your LICENSE.DAT file so you can install it later in the new TH folder. 6. Assuming you do not have an icon for THGuard in your Systray at this point, open the Task Manager (ctrl-alt-del). a. Search through the list of running processes for THGUARD.EXE b. If THGUARD.EXE is running, kill it using the Task Manager. NOTE: If you do have a THGuard icon in the lower right Systray, unload THGuard 7. Using ADD/REMOVE Programs, remove TrojanHunter. 8. Once the removal is completed, close ADD/REMOVE Programs 9. REBOOT your computer. Continue to next POST
