Hmmm...this is a most unique failure. I don't recall seeing it mentioned previously by any users. If you don't mind, let's try the obvious one more time using the following procedure. 1. Download a fresh copy of TH 4.2 Build 908. Just click on the Download Now link above. Save it to your desktop or to a folder on your hard drive. Do not RUN the installer. 2. Create a new System Restore point just for safety purposes. 3. Sign off your ISP. 4. Save a copy of your License.Dat file somewhere so you can restore it later in this procedure. 5. Unload THGuard. Be sure there is no TH icon in the lower right Systray. 6. If you have ProcessGuard, uncheck "Protection Enabled". 7. If you have AdAware's Ad-Watch, open the Ad-Watch settings window to the Options page. Disable "Lock Startup Sections" and "Automatic". 8. Using Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, remove TrojanHunter 4.2. 9. REBOOT your computer. Be sure to logon with an account that has full adminstrative privileges. 10. After you are rebooted, shut down all programs in the lower right Systray. 11. Disable your antivirus scanner. 12. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the C:\Program Files\TrojanHunter 4.2 folder. Delete this folder. 13. Delete any other TrojanHunter folders that are left over from previous versions. 13a. Now let's do some cleanup of temporary files just to ensure that no conflicts will occur during the installation. - Delete all files from the C:\Windows\Temp folder. DO NOT delete the C:\Windows\Temp folder itself. Any subfolders inside the Temp folder can be deleted. - Delete all files from the C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Temp folder. Note: UserName is your account name. There will be a Temp folder for each UserName account on your system. Clean the Temp folder for each UserName. DO NOT delete the Temp folder itself. Any subfolders inside the Temp folder can be deleted. 14. Close Windows Explorer. 14a. Go to START-SETTINGS-CONTROL PANEL-INTERNET OPTIONS-GENERAL tab. Delete all temporary Internet files including the offline ones. 15. Start the installation of TrojanHunter. 16. Let the installer create a new C:\Program Files\TrojanHunter 4.2 folder as the installation folder by default. 17. When the TH Installer asks if you want to download the latest definitions, respond NO. 18. When the TH Installer gets to the Finish window, uncheck the box for Start TH Scanner. Leave checked the box to Start TH Guard. DO NOT click on Finish just yet. 19. Open Windows Explorer and paste a copy of your License.Dat file into the C:\Program Files\TrojanHunter 4.2 folder. Close Windows Explorer. 20. Click on Finish on TH Installer window. The THGuard icon should now be in lower right Systray. 21. Right click on the THGuard icon in the lower right systray and select Settings. 22. Select your desired settings. All are recommended. However, you may not wish to have the automatic check for updates to occur at a specific time because of your Internet connect type. 23. Click on OK to SAVE the THGuard settings. 24. REBOOT your computer. 25. Once you have rebooted, all your programs should be back up and running. - Be sure your antivirus program is active. - If you have ProcessGuard, re-enable protection. - If you have Ad-Watch, lock the startup sections and set Automatic On (assuming this is your desired settings). 26. Sign on your ISP 27. Right click on the THGuard icon in the lower right Systray and select Run LiveUpdate. Once the update is downloaded, you should see a little RED box in the lower left corner of the THGuard icon. This shows it is updating its definitions. This box will disappear momentarily. 28. Sign off your ISP 29. Open TH Scanner and ensure you have downloaded the latest definitions set. Set all of your desired Options for the TH Scanner. Select the disk(s) you want scanned. Do a FULL scan of your disk. Hopefully you will scan clean. AND hopefully the original problem is resolved. Please post back as to whether all is well or we need to look deeper, deeper into this.
