| The resident TH Guard does memory scanning ,whereas a realtime monitor [RTM] for an AntiVirus does file scanning. on May 6th, 2005, 12:55pm, crdenny wrote:| I just switched from McAfee AV, which was not compatible with TH Guard --- if I enabled THG in Startup, the computer froze instantly, which it would do for a minute or two if I booted up TH LiveUpdate, and it also froze completely whenever I booted up TH Scanner without disabling McAfee first. But since installing Avast, it seems that booting up TH Scanner causes no problem, so... I'm hoping this will be much better. |
| That is strange. The only times I've seen any conflicts were when the security component THSec.DLL was causing conflict. This component can be disabled by renaming it to THSec.disabled in Safe Mode, then rebooting into Normal Mode; it is *not* essential to the proper working of the resident Guard; rather, it provides, as the name implies, some security by "hardening" the Guard against process termination by rogue programs [malware]. Again, that is a software issue which relates to THSec.DLL and not the normal functioning of the resident Guard. Normally, as I've explained, the resident TH Guard should not conflict with the AntiVirus realtime monitor since they scan different things [*memory*, as contrasted to *file access*]. on May 6th, 2005, 12:55pm, crdenny wrote:| I assume (and hope) that just running a scan with TH Scanner --- a different section of the forum, I know, but I don't want to post twice on this --- wouldn't conflict with Avast's background scanner, but would also like to run TH Guard full-time if possible. |
| It isnt absolutely necessary, but it helps speed up your scan, if you first disable your antivirus realtime monitor while doing a manual scan with TrojanHunter, since the AV scans the same files and slows down the AT scan. [The AV can also "lock" or "deny access" to files it flags as malware, before the AT has a chance to examine them]. Then re-enable your AV monitor when done with the AT scan. Hope that helps.
