TH wants to install driver/service
« on: Mar 1st, 2005, 6:03pm »

Hello! All,

I have winxp, sp2. Just recently upgraded to  TH v4.2.

ProcessGuard informs me that TH wants to install a driver/service named "mchInDrv". Is this to be accepted (allowed)?

Thanks

I don't use Process Guard {but siliconman01 does}, but I would think, if you are absolutely sure this is a process from TH Guard, that it is of course safe to allow it.  I think spy1 {Pete} also uses Process Guard; perhaps one of them can help, if this catches their eye.  Wink

Edit: I dropped siliconman01 a PM heads-up about this thread; hopefully he can drop by to help.

GrinHey! Randy,

Thanks!!! I was forced to use Windows Firewall for a couple of days and had to clean house (again) once I got OP back on-line. So...just double checking.

Ya'all are great...as usual!!

Are you sure this is not MCHINJDRV?  mchindrv does not sound familiar and I can find no reference to it on Google.

Are you using Spy Sweeper?  If so, mchinJdrv is used by the IE Hijack shield in Spy Sweeper and is normal.

Hey! siliconman01

Forgive the typo. It should be (mchInjDrv). I don't and never had Spysweeper on my machine. At least now I know why I couldn't find anything on my typo!

Always Thankful for the Help

Is this something that just started happening?  And for no apparent reason...such as it started after you installed a new program on your computer?  Does it occur when you manually activate a specific program?

There are virus that use this driver.

TrojanHunter installs a hook to protect TrojanHunter Guard from malicious shutdowns, which is why you see this message. You can safely allow this - the driver is definitely not a trojan.

ahhh...thanks Magnus, that answers it.

Snowfire,

You can set THGUARD.exe in ProcessGuard to permit installation of drivers and services.  That will stop the alert message from PG.

OR

You can do as I and several other PG users do.  You can let ProcessGuard do the full protection of THGUARD.exe.  To do this:

1.  Be sure THGUARD.EXE is in ProcessGuard's list of protected programs.

2.  Unload/shutdown THGuard.exe

3.  Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the C:\Program Files\TrojanHunter 4.2 folder and open the folder.

4.  Locate THSEC.DLL and rename it to THSEC1.DLL.  Close Windows Explorer.

5.  Restart THGUARD.exe

Now only those programs in PG's protection list that you have given rights to Terminate Protected Programs can terminate THGuard.exe.
