Minor whinge - what are you using to keep your clock updated on the Forum server, Magnus? It's just that the Forum clock is 12 minutes faster than my PC (set using Tardis, normally to Strathclyde University NTP server on ntp1.strath.ac.uk, but they're all pretty much the same and based on one atomic clock or another). It's been drifting further off for a while now.

Unless there's an element of true local time, of course Grin

Just FYI.

Thanks; the server clock was indeed off. I've corrected it now. If the problem persists I'll have to cron an NTP synch.

It seems fine up here in NZ, just a minute ahead of my freshly synched clock.

It's now nearer 2 minutes out. I wonder if all the 'downtime' the server's suffered (seems like every Sunday) means the clock's been corrected more often? I make sure that all the workstations at work synch date and time with the PDC (which itself is sync'ed to NTP) at log on, but then they're on their own from then on...

Someone once observed that PC clocks were more accurate when computers were shut off, which seems bizarre when you think they basically run an extremely fast clock in the CPU - the faster the clock, the more ticks per second and the more accurate it should be. Mind you, if a cheap-with-petrol ('gas') (£1.99) digital can be accurate to less than 1 second a month, maybe there was a point... I saw another demo that pitched a £1.99 digital against a £10,000 mechanical chronograph - guess which won? I'll have the more accurate one, plus a two-year-old Vauxhall (Opel) Omega (the antipodean GM equivalent would be a Holden GTS, but not quite with the Corvette engine) with the change... I managed to find a 2000-model 3.2L auto 'MV6' sports model for 8 grand a couple of days ago - 17" alloys, dark metallic blue, fully loaded, (apart from no satnav...); just a shame about the 90K miles it was carrying - so it can be done!

Yeah, and not only that, the 'essential' satnav system costs £1,500 for a greyscale screen (which doesn't show maps) - if it was a new car, I'd have to ask for the full-screen colour option, and shell out another £400.

There was also a top 'Elite' model for the same cash, previous incarnation from about 1998, that had this option, plus leather, heated seats and all sundry other distractions, but someone had already stuck a deposit on it...

Yet again I stray off-topic. What was this one about? Clocks? Oh, that reminds me, GM Europe use RDS signals to synch the car's clock to one or other of the atomic clocks (in UK, it's the one at Rugby), including the change to/from daylight saving.

See! I knew there was a link!!!
