I think something's amiss with the 'new' indicators on my PC... Having raved about the way they work, I noticed that most of the messages in other forums here were flagged as 'new', including ones to which I've contributed (so have seen) that have been dormant for many moons now. Now, I dump the cookies folder fairly regularly, along with all the other Internet stuff, via a DOS batch file (so it gets rid of the index.dat files too). I guess that this may have some bearing on the situation... So far, I know what I've read this session because the thread titles go from blue to grey, but that will be reset back to blue for the next day's session (it survives a logout and login, even shutting down IE). I see some threads without the 'new' tag, but most with. I can use the 'mark as read' option at the foot of each forum to remove all red 'new' tags, but given that I read pretty much everything here, (or just skip in and out, which amounts to the same thing as far as the PC is concerned), most shouldn't be tagged for me. Any way to have this work as follows:- - 'New' red tags on threads with new messages since last viewing (on a page refresh, for example). - No 'New' tags on threads read ages ago (may need a cookie or similar to survive in a different folder, or perhaps a record stored at the Forum end along with user details). - Also, the top-level forum indicators - any chance the icon with the blue/grey circle in the corner could be modified to red/grey? Just a thought.
