Download IE7 upgrade ONLY from the official Microsoft download site:

BE SURE to disable your resident anti-virus program and ALL other security programs before installing IE7
 
For those of you who like the IE6 Menu taskbar and like it as the first taskbar in IE7, here is a registry modification that will induce this:

You can also copy the text code in the Code box below into a NOTEPAD document and save it to your desktop as a .reg file (example:  IE7MenuBar.reg).   Be sure the Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 is included.  Then run this new file and it will make the registry change for you.

If you are using Outlook as your mail client (and I assume Outlook Express), you may encounter a problem opening email that is not opened in Plain Text.  Non-plain text mail opens incredibly slow.  Just convert all received mailed to plain text...which is the safest anyhow.  
 
OUTLOOK>TOOLS>OPTIONS>PREFERENCES>EMAIL OPTIONS
 
"Read all standard mail in plain text"
"Read all digitally signed mail in plain text"

Here is a nice little freebie for pre-Outlook 2003 versions for converting Outlook to reading all incoming mail in plain text.

Additional recommmendation for NIS 2007 users:
 
1.  Use the fraud/phish detection from NIS 2007, not IE 7.  
 
2.  You can hide the NIS 2007 fraud toolbar if you do not want it to show up on every web page.  
 
-  Open IE
-  Click on View>Toolbars in the top menu
-  Uncheck "Show Norton Toolbar"
Every page is still checked by NIS 2007 and the red fraud alert will occur if the page is fraudulent.
