Program Updates in TrojanHunter 5

This is how program updates will work in TrojanHunter 5:

1. LiveUpdate will check for program updates. If a new version is available it will ask the user if it should be downloaded and installed.

2. The new setup file is downloaded from the server.

3. LiveUpdate launches a utility that closes LiveUpdate and uninstalls the current version of TrojanHunter

4. The uninstaller will completely uninstall TrojanHunter except for the license file

5. The upgrade utility launches the new setup file in auto mode. After the installation finishes TrojanHunter Scanner and Guard will automatically start.

All of this will be done automatically. The user will only have to answer "Yes" when asked if he wants to upgrade.

Sounds slick. I guess that's the end of the default folder name including the TH version number.

Can you also make sure the Ignore List file survives the upgrade as well...? Wink

Does this mean it will automatically shutdown THGuard, kill contmenu.dll, and anything other needed shutdown element in THGuard?

And will it save and restore the settings from the uninstalled version?

Hmmm Undecided The truly paranoid (who sir? me sirHuh!) would run the upgrade off-line, but at least it's not quite as risky as upgrading a firewall online... So, we have a quandary, since the update process is an online thing.

Just so long as whatever is decided is documented - I still have an old external USR 56kbit modem and the management software for that shuts down EVERY TCP/IP connection (cable, LAN, ADSL and dial-up), even if the app is loaded and then quit without doing any sort of upgrade, which is annoying. No notice of this in any help file or manual.

In addition to retaining the license file and ignore list, I'd like the auto-upgrade to retain any custom tools the user has installed.

For example, it used to be (still is for users of Windows 95/98/Me) that TrojanHunter could not tell what program was generating a port alert.  So I got in the habit of installing TCPView from SysInternals as a "TrojanHunter" tool.

During every TH install, I create a C:\Program Files\TrojanHunter x.x\Tools\TCPView folder, install TCPView there, and add the following to my Tools.ini file.

Quote:

[TCPView]
Path=Tools\TCPView\Tcpview.exe
ShortCut=Ctrl+T

I don't know if anybody else adds custom tools to their TrojanHunter tools menu, but it sure would be nice if the auto-upgrade was "intelligent" enough to recognize and retain them.
