Date Format Question

Is it a safe bet that most Americans understand the date format "2006-03-10"? If not, what is the best option?

I'm guessing Americans would understand that, but being from the UK, the dates for ruleset updates etc are backwards for me, here we do dd/mm/yyyy rather than mm/dd/yyyy  or yyyy/mm/dd

While I have a slight perference of yyyy-mm-dd as being universally understandable, it would seem that using the users regional settings to display the date might be best.

The standard format in the US of A is mm-day-year...usually as March 16, 2006.  I have found that almost any country national understands  16-Mar-2006.

Having the month, day, year as all numbers in almost any order leads to confusion somewhere (except if the year is 2006 instead of 06).

Just my experience from having worked as an American for a foreign company doing global business.   Wink

Hehe yea, if I say for example 16-Mar-2006 written as 03/16/2006, on first glance I always say to myself, is that a typo?  There aren't 16 months Tongue

I guess the confusion arises when you have say, 04/03/2006, is that 4th March (it would be here in the UK) or the 3rd of April as in the USA...?

I do feel that most Americans become confused with most anything other than the mm-day-year arrangement.

That's why I recommend something like 16-Mar-2006 or 2006-Mar-16.  Using the alphanumeric name of the month eliminates all confusion for which one is the month and the yyyy instead of yy is very clear.   Wink

Grin I probably drive the Europeans crazy at Wilders; I am the Updates Forum Helper and all our dates are American format!  Smiley  [mm-dd-yyyy] -- j/k -- but Tom's suggestion is a reasonable compromise.
