Not sure what this means for us all, but if Symantec do the same as they did with PowerQuest, then all those with Veritas software had better jump on the upgrade path before time runs out... Anyone with PowerQuest software they bought before that particular buy-out (I have PQ DriveImage and PartitionMagic, pre-Symantec and stuck there) will know that leaving until 'later' means you're cut right out of the loop and will have to buy it all over again, like you never had an older version to upgrade...
 
Anyway, from a security point of view, it means that Symantec can offer drive imaging and probably the best full-system automated backup software out there alongside the Norton stuff. AFAIK, the analysts class this one as a 'non-security related' extension of Symantec's business, but forgive me if I consider taking regular backups to be a security thing myself!
