Hi everybody.

I've been fighting this for more than two weeks, and it does not seemtogo anywhere, so some expert help is needed. I am running Spy Sweeper, identifying winlogon but it does not seem to completely clear the stuff.

Anybody can help more than I can do ?

Thanks,
alex

Welcome to the forum Llex,  Wink

Let's see if we can assist you in cleaning Vundo off your system.  The two offending files on your system are:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {871A0F72-354F-4097-8943-BDCA03B01A6A} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvvw.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winxtx32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winxtx32.dll

Please do this first.

1.  Go to the link below and download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

http://vundofix.atribune.org/

2.  Disable (or shut down) all your security programs except your software firewall.  We do not want other security programs to block VundoFix from doing its work.

3.  Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.

-  Click the Scan for Vundo button.

-  Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.

-  You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES

-  Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.

-  When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.

4.  Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.

Note:  It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Siliconman, thanks for the input.

I downloaded the VundoFix, but it hasn't found anything on the computer. I tried the search with and without the network connected, but no result. When I use Internet Explorer I get still pop-ups which are (luckily) blocked by Spy Sweeper. So I am again in the dark...

I run again HiJackThis, and this is the resulting log.

Again thanks for your support,
Alex

Well, maybe worth mentioning:I get all the time Symantec Antivirus blocking Vundo and I get SpySweeper blocking installation of BHOs in Explorer. I don't know if it is really worth mentioning, but I needed to share this :)

I also submitted the files as indicated... I am curious what you are findings based on this.

thanks again for your time and effort.

Okay, we are going to have to do some "brute force" cleaning to get rid of your malicious critters.

You should print out these instructions in case IE is not available during part of the procedure.

1.  First update TrojanHunter's rulesets to the latest rules.  Gavin/Magnus have probably analyzed your files by now and incorporated the necessary removal rules.  Because you are running the Trial version of TH, the LiveUpdate feature is not active.

- Go to the link below and manually download/install the latest rules.

http://www.misec.net/trojanhunter/updating/

2.  Download/Install Killbox from the link below.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/killbox.php

Also please read/printout the tutorial for using Killbox from the link below.

http://metallica.geekstogo.com/killboxexplanation.html

3.  You need to install HiJackthis in a folder on your hard drive...not on your Desktop.  If HJT is on your desktop, it will not create backups.  Please install HJT in its own folder under C:\Program Files\Hijackthis

4.  Run another HJT scan.

5.  When the scan is completed, place a checkmark in the box next to each of the items below.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.serial99.com/?a

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {852F50B6-EDF4-46F3-B848-B7120904CA62} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvvw.dll

O2 - BHO: {c36ead6b-821e-0a39-c484-5ec6e9c626d8} - {8d626c9e-6ce5-484c-93a0-e128b6dae63c} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ebiknikt.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [4af070be] "rundll32.exe" "C:\WINDOWS\system32\xekkqwop.dll",b

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winxtx32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winxtx32.dll

6.  Close all open windows EXCEPT for the HJT window.

7.  Click on Fix Checked on the bottom left of the HJT window.  Confirm that you want HJT to fix these items and let it fix them.

8.  Open Killbox

9.  Bullet Delete on Reboot

10.  Paste in the following files to kill

C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvvw.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winxtx32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xekkqwop.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ebiknikt.dll
