Active X Programs??
« on: Aug 3rd, 2006, 6:40pm »
Quote Quote  Modify Modify

I was concerned about an "false positive" alert with some Anti-Spyware I was testing,so got some great direction for On-Line scanning options(thanks siliconman01) Smiley
Anyway, I'm wondering now, and maybe its nit-pocking, but I'm wondering what happens to all the files that I downloaded (ActiveX)and virus/identifications updates for the final scanning process. Now I've moved on an I'm not wanting to carry these unnecessary files.
Do files get deleted or is manual removal necessary?
Thanks again. Cool

A manual removal of these leftover files is necessary, unfortunately.  Do a search using key words such as Kaspersky, BitDefender, etc.  and they should be revealed to you.  Also post a new HJT log and I can point out some items that you can use HJT to remove.

Okay, here are items that you can use HJT to Fix.

1.  Run a new HJT scan.

2.  Checkmark ONLY the items shown below:

(Leftovers of BitDefender scan)

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Uninstall BitDefender Online Scanner v8 - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)

O16 - DPF: {5D86DDB5-BDF9-441B-9E9E-D4730F4EE499} (BDSCANONLINE Control) - http://download.bitdefender.com/resources/scan8/oscan8.cab

(Leftover from Panda scan)

O16 - DPF: {9A9307A0-7DA4-4DAF-B042-5009F29E09E1} (ActiveScan Installer Class) - http://acs.pandasoftware.com/activescan/as5free/asinst.cab

(Leftover from Spy Sweeper scan)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: WRNotifier - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WRLogonNTF.dll

(If you do not have RealPlayer on your system anymore, you can include this one)

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

3.  Once you have the above checkmarked (and be certain that these are the ONLY ones checkmarked), click on Fix Checked on the bottom left of the HJT scan, confirm Fix, and let HJT fix these items.

4.  Close HJT.

Here are couple of .Cab files that will be on your hard drive that you can delete from the BitDefender and Panda scan.  They may be in their own folders- and you can delete the folder if the folder is dedicated to Panda or BitDefender.

asinst.cab  (from Panda)
oscan8.cab  (from BitDefender)

That and my previous post should clean you up from these remote scans.
