Yes, it is.  Eric works hard at illustrating this problem and does an excellent job for the security consciencious Internet users.  
 
Personally, I keep licensed versions of GIANT AntiSpyware, AdAware SE Plus with AdWatch, eTrust PestPatrol 2005, and Spy Sweeper plus NIS 2005, TrojanHunter V4.1, SpywareBlaster, and ProcessGuard going strong and updated routinely (daily) on my system.
 
In addition, I update the HOSTS file for MS Internet Explorer and the Custom Block list for Spyware as available.   Wink

Yeah spyware is hardcore these days.
I use Microsoft AntiSpyware coz its the same as GIANT antispyware but free (they bought them out)
