Learning about dialers

Morning everyone.  
 
I'm trying to learn as much about adware and malware as possible to protect myself and gain knowledge. Can anyone explain to me about dialers and how they affect a DSL/broadband connection?

Dialers don't affect dsl/broadband. They affect modem users.
