Problem updating ruleset
« on: Feb 7th, 2006, 9:52am »

Hi,

I have a problem when attempting to install the latest updated rulset.  All goes as normal with the download until the end, when I receive this error message:

Unable to move C:\Program Files\TrojanHunter 4.2\Tools\LiveUpdate\Temp\Rulesets.ini to C:\Program Files\ TrojanHunter 4.2\Rulesets.ini (Cannot create a file when that file already exists). Unable to install.

Any ideas as to how I can fix this, please?

TIA

I cannot help but I can confirm that I have had exactly the same problem today so obviuosly it is down to the latest Ruleset release.

I hope it can rectified soon and that TH Gaurd is still funtioning as it should be using the previuos update.

Please check if the file Rulesets.ini in your TrojanHunter folder is read-only (right-click the file, select Properties). If it is, remove the read-only attribute and that should solve the problem.

Same problem here.

No Rulesets.ini file found in TH's folder Sad

The only file with more or less such a name is InifileRules and is unckecked

TH Liveupdate worked flawlessly until this update

Any clue?

TIA

Thanks, Magnus, that did the trick for me.

Should the Rulesets.ini file be left with the read-only attribute left unchecked, or returned to it's previous (read only) state?

The file should not be read-only.

successfully updated
using the fix posted by
Magnus.
checked the read only attributes in the file in "properties "
and it had been changed to read only.
removed the check and got the update done.
thanks,

Thanks, Magnus.
Can you tell me what, if anything, might have set the file to read-only?

I presume something caused it to be set this way(read-only), so would be interested to know what.

Unchecking "Read-only" worked for me.  However, I am also wondering how it became "Read-only."

Unchecking resolved the problem for me, but why did it happen and what was the cause?

Still looking into it; was probably yesterday's update.

see this thread

http://forum.misec.net/?board=RulesetUpdates;action=display;num=11383873 86;start=7#7

my "rulesets.ini" file is still NOT "read only", so it was not changed with "yesterday's" update..

claire, i don't know why you are missing the rulesets.ini file.. i think a simple solution would be to reinstall TH.. if you do that, be sure to close THGuard before running the uninstall, and reboot after running the uninstall to complete the uninstall.. then delete any leftover TH files in c/program files..
